Winter Moon Celebration

Summary:

Since returning from exile, Princess Luna has had her own special celebration: the Winter Moon Celebration

Work Text:

When princess Luna returned, a new celebration had been created six months later. Princess Celestia had the Summer Sun Celebration and Princess Luna had the Winter Moon Celebration.

Princess Northern Lights excitedly got ready for the day. It was the Winter Moon Celebration, the longest night in Equestria. The day would be the shortest but there was a wonderful ball planned for after Princess Luna raised the moon.

"I'm so excited," Princess Northern Lights said to her cousins Princess Mirage and Prince Copycat.

"The Summer Sun Celebration is better," Copycat said. "We get to stay up all night to watch Mom raise the sun."

"Well, I like watching Aunt Luna raise the moon and the ball is always fun," Mirage said.

Copycat was always the more difficult of the two but Mirage was the opposite. She liked to keep the peace and knew that her Aunt Luna was just as important and special as her mom. Northern Lights knew it, too. But she still wanted her mother to be acknowledged for what she did. It seemed like every pony refused to forget that she was once Nightmare Moon. Of course, Northern Lights didn't know her as Nightmare Moon. To her she was just Luna, the Princess of the Night and her mom.

"There you foals are," said Alucard, Northern Light's dad.

A bat pony, he was the perfect match for the princess of the night. He had come to Canterlot with the other bat ponies not long after Luna returned. Many bat ponies had become Luna's guards and aids. No one thought it was odd. Bat ponies were the perfect guards and aids for the princess of the moon. And a bat pony was the perfect choice for Luna's husband and head guard.

“Hi, Dad,” Northern Lights said. “We were just talking about the celebration tonight.”

“Just make sure you aren’t late,” Alucard said.

“We won’t be, Uncle Alucard,” Mirage said.

Northern Lights took one last look at her reflection. The festival was about to start so she had to look her best. Her dress was a beautiful midnight blue with black satin around the collar, sleaves, and edge of the skirt. It was dusted with silver to make it sparkle and a silver moon and stars adorned the skirt. A silver tiara and a pair of silver shoes completed the outfit.

“You look so pretty,” her father said from her doorway. “Just like your mother.”

Together they made their way to the ballroom. Every creature had gathered there as Princess Celestia began to lower the sun and Princess Luna raised the moon. Northern Lights felt a sense of pride as she watched her mother. This was what she liked; seeing her mother treated with respect as the princess of the night and not feared as Nightmare Moon.
