Between light and ash

Chapter 1: Between light and ash

Chapter Text

Between Light and Ash

The sky was ablaze. Not with fire, but with colors that seemed to breathe: waves of gold, copper, and pink that danced across the horizon as if the air itself were dreaming. Buck looked up from the cliff, mesmerized. It wasn't the first time he'd seen this phenomenon, but it was the first time he understood it: it was Tommy.

The wind shifted, warm and sweet like a caress. From the luminous mist, a figure began to take shape. Threads of light wove around it, outlining a body, a face… and eyes that Buck would have recognized even in another life.

"I thought I'd never see you again," Buck whispered, barely audible over the murmur of the currents that surrounded him.

Tommy smiled, that smile half defiance, half comfort.

"I never left. I just became what I was always meant to be."

Buck took a step forward, feeling the ground vibrate beneath his boots. This reality seemed liquid, Unstable, as if dissolving with every breath. Everything was movement: threads of energy that intertwined, breathed, and glowed with the pulse of their hearts.

"And what are you now?" Buck asked, his voice breaking.

Tommy raised a hand, and the light followed, spiraling outward and enveloping them both. In that instant, Buck saw memories projected into the air: their first kiss in the rain, their goodbye at the airport, the accident that had taken him away… All rewriting themselves, over and over, as if the universe refused to separate them.

"I am the echo of what could not die," Tommy replied, drawing closer. "The spark you left in me."

Their fingers touched, and the world burst into impossible colors. There was no heat, only a feeling of wholeness, of a union beyond matter. Their bodies blurred, becoming traces of energy that danced with each other, merging into a A symphony of light and movement.

Buck felt he could see everything: the memories, the dreams, the tears that were never shed. And in the midst of that immensity, only one thing mattered.

"I searched for you in every life," he murmured.

Tommy rested his forehead against Buck's, his eyes closed, the glow of his soul merging with his.

"And in every one, I found you. Only this time, I want to stay."

Forms began to dissolve, not with sadness, but with the certainty that something new was being born. Matter became light, light became sound, and sound became a vibration that filled the air with the melody of their union.

When dawn faded, the cliff was empty. But above the horizon, two golden threads crossed the sky, intertwining forever.

Because sometimes love doesn't need a body to exist; it's enough for two souls to decide to become a single light in the universe.
