Work Text:
May's heart was shattered in the back of this very library where she's now giggling in Ravi's arms.
Three years ago, she found her boyfriend kissing another girl, right here against these very shelves.
But now, she's here with Ravi, laughing, happier than she has been in ages, and hoping that today could be the day.
They've been dancing around this thing between them for a few months now. Ever since the first time they sat together at a 118 barbecue and got lost talking to each other despite being in the middle of other conversations, their 118 family have been teasing them mercilessly.
But no move has been made, even though they make trips to the public library every Sunday and Wednesday that Ravi has off because those are May's usual days off. Even though they get coffee together every morning before their shifts, whether that means going to the coffee shop between the firehouse and the call center, or meeting at either job for coffee. He even comes to the bachelor night that she has with Buck and Harry, though his mutterings are far more amusing than Buck and Harry's full-on rants.
May finds her giggling stopping as Ravi just looks at her with those deep brown eyes that sparkle in the dim glow of the library's lantern light. His hands are on her hips, their bodies pressed together so tightly that she can feel every inch of him, and her hands are laced behind his neck.
It's a sweet position, soft and hopeful, romantic even, and as she stares into Ravi's eyes, she hopes he sees this too.
"May," his voice is so rough that she shivers as she hums in response, letting him know she's listening. "Can I kiss you?"
The request is so quiet that if they weren't this close, she probably would've missed it, but she's so glad she didn't.
With a soft smile, her fingers playing with the hair at the nape of his neck, she replies, "I'll be real sad if you don't, Ravi."
His lips curve into a grin that makes her feel more breathless than his request, but then he leans in properly, their forehead meeting gently, their noses nuzzling, and then, finally, he kisses her.
It's soft, chaste, but so sweet that she melts against him, legs going a bit weak.
Their lips part as their heads tilt, and she feels the second she starts getting lost because her hands slide into dark hair as she pushes off the bookcase to get closer. But he doesn't seem to be doing any better as one arm wraps fully around her waist while the other slides up her spine so his hand can cup the back of her neck.
It gets slick, tongues meeting, bottom lips being nipped and soothed, and then she whimpers as he licks over the roof of her mouth. It's loud in the quiet space, and it startles them both apart so fast that her head feels like it's spinning as a thin string of saliva connects their lips
"Fuck," breathes May quietly as she looks at him, chest heaving as her heart pounds into her throat.
"Yeah," pants Ravi as he looks at her, still holding her, though his hands are just barely gripping her hips from how far they jolted apart. "I was planning to ask you out before I kissed you like that, but apparently, my self-control isn't as good as it should be."
"I'm going to take that as a compliment," replies May breathily, still struggling to catch her breath after that kiss. "But ask me out now, Ravi, please."
"It's the best compliment I could give," murmurs Ravi sweetly as one of his hands lift to slip a curled dark strand behind her ear. His fingers curve down her cheek to pinch her chin as his eyes stare imploringly into hers. "Will you go on a date with me, May Grant?"
Her lips curve into a wide smile that has her cheeks aching immediately as she looks at him, happiness so filling that she doesn't think she can hold it in for long as her fingers play with his hair again. "Ravi Panikkar, will you be my boyfriend?"
Laughter escapes him as he ducks his head forward for a minute, and it's the best sound she thinks she's ever heard.
But then he looks up, brown eyes positively sparkling, and replies, "I'd love to be your boyfriend, as long as I can plan our first date."
"That sounds absolutely perfect to me," says May brightly as she hugs him close, burying her face in his neck.
Who knew she'd find her happily ever after in the same place her heart had once shattered? Not her, but May is pretty damn happy that her happily ever after is beginning with Ravi.
