Work Text:
The game had started off as a joke but started becoming a competition between the two arrogant librarians. Hod and Malkuth had only been the "side pieces" of the games conflict since they were good sportsmen, but the other two had genuinely gotten closer to fighting each other. Not with cards either, He was determined to win the match as he had 4 cards left. Gebura had been saving the side-glare since the last three standing and was indifferent from the start of the game, even after jokes were cracked and laughter was greatly appreciated at the table, she still hadn't made a single sound that was near a chuckle or laugh. The only remarks she had were pushing Roland down, or talking to Binah about the rules. For the people who were really focused on it until Roland realized that she was genuinely taking it seriously, He had given a side glance to Hod and Malkuth, who were also confused about why Gebura had taken it so serious to win this game. He tried to say something but she quickly shushed him and he sputtered out in offense. "She just shushed me! She can't do that can she, Binah?!" He quickly turned to the referee of the game, Binah, questioning her gestures of silence. She was down to two and none of them had really gotten a chance to say Uno before her. She looked down at the stack of cards and cursed silently, drawing from the deck and silently burning holes into the deck because of the game. She wasn't really, but from what Netzach had witnessed, he looked over at her and she was fairly aggressive with the last card she had placed; or slapped down, onto the deck and a few turns later she had shouted out "ONE!" He immediately glared over at her and spoke up in annoyance. "YOU CHEATING SON OF A BITCH! YOUR SUPPOSED TO SAY UNO WHEN YOU ONLY GOT ONE CARD LEFT!" "I SAID ONE!" She retorted back to him in frustration. "YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO SAY UNO, ITS A MEXICAN GAME." Binah had heard all of this excuse of a "argument" and slammed her tea cup onto the table once, speaking up. "Both of you stop this foolish arguing, its making my head ache. Just play the game." Malkuth had nodded in agreement, Hod out of the game was resting against Netzach while the other three were only watching. Yesod had been sitting on the opposite side of the couch, watching the game silently in interest and a slightly peaking amusement. With a opportunity to seek, Malkuth took it and shouted out. "UNO, GEBURA YOUR OUT!" A frustrated red haired librarian stormed off and had yelled out "SON OF A BITCH!" before leaving the room, it was down to two. Malkuth had gleefully took upon the chance to glance at Rolands card amount, 4. She had 6 cards left, and one of them was a yellow draw two. The only problem was that... the card color was green. Not yellow. She side eyed Angela who was sitting silently across the room, not wanting to interfere. Angela ignored the glance and silent request for help by looking back down at her book and reading for a longer time then she wished for, hoping one of them would lose soon as she could finally go back to organizing books and cleaning. Both of the librarians continued on the game before Roland had one. He shouted out victoriously and smug. "UNO!" Malkuth cursed under her breath, worried she would lose this game. She sobered up her expression and stared down at her hand, The yellow draw two was still there, along with a yellow four card. And the universe bent over its back for her, practically handing the win to her. She grinned, placing down the draw two card into the stack above a red four card. His smug look faded as he realized he hadn't a single yellow card. Blue. That color was gross to him, but oh well. He drew and winced slightly, accepting that he'd carry the burden of losing for a few hours. She yelled out uno again, smacking down the card and standing up in a victorious excitement as her chair nearly knocked over but Yesod strided over and caught it with ease, setting it down. Hod and Binah broke out into applaud, the brown haired librarian congratulating her. Roland had been a bit embarrassed, but he knew it was apart of the game and losing was a natural thing. Blue had damned him again.
