Why not me!!

Summary:

“If I were a lesbian I’d totally go for you” that’s what Gaby said to Susan one time while she caressed her hair ever so gently. So then, why did she choose Edie over her?

Or: Susan is offended by the fact that when Gaby had a lesbian relationship, it was not with her.

Work Text:

It was a well known fact that Susan Mayer was a simple woman, a little childish even, with a crippling need for approval from the people around her. She sought to be loved and chosen by all, even if she had to go through an inconvenience.

See, Susan Mayer still remembers the night she was curled in Gabriel’s arms, her head on her lap as they discussed their wedding plans. And there was a line that she had never forgotten.

“I’m not a lesbian but if I were I’d totally go for you”

That’s what Gabrielle told her as she caressed her hair ever so gently. So then, now that Gaby is out of the closet, why did she choose Edie over her?

“I still don’t understand, didn't they almost kill each other over Carlos? How can they suddenly date overnight?” She complained, frustrated as she was washing the dishes, Bree Hodge giving her an ear as she listened to her.

“Well it’s certainly curious that the most male cantered women ended up dating. I couldn’t even imagine that they would swing that way” Bree said, as composed as ever. Andrew’s homosexuality made her more tolerant of the sexual perversion of her two neighbours.

“I really cannot believe Gaby. She literally told me that she’s not a lesbian. I mean why couldn’t she just tell me the truth before?” She turned around to face Bree, her frustration growing as she threw the sponge into the sink.

“Susan, I can understand why Carlos is losing his mind over turning the two women he loved lesbian while he’s learning to live without his sight, but why are you upset dear?”

“Well that’s because Gaby told me that if she ever turns gay she’d totally go for me and not that cunning skank Edie!!” She cried as she walked away, going for the stairs.

Oh, I never realised that you hated Edie that much” Bree observed, a slight smile on her lips.

“I DON’T” she screamed childishly as she climbed the stairs, the embarrassment of the moment making her hurry to her room like a teenager that doesn’t want her mother to smell the waft of a crush on her.

“I’ll leave the chocolate chip cookies in front of your room” Bree screamed after her in hopes of cheering her up, Susan was pregnant and sensitive, perhaps that’s why she was getting a little touchy about the affair, especially since Mike was in the rehab.

Susan couldn’t stay still, especially not after she saw Gabrielle heading towards Edie’s home and doing god knows what. Determined, she did her best to glam up in such a short time, a little make up, hair down, a black dress that showed her cleavage, that’ll do it.

“Bree I’m going out for a while” she hurried outside, not waiting for her guest’s response.

“Oh Gaby!! Nice seeing you here!! We haven’t met since the hurricane incident!! Haha!! Why is everyone saying that you’re dating Edie??” She approached her awkwardly but then, in a Susan manner, she managed to ask her question.

“Susan,” she greeted with her usual high pitched voice, “well I planned to keep this whole affair a secret but you know Edie, she’s obsessed with marking her territory.”

“But it’s so sudden, I’m totally in shock. Especially since you told me specifically that you’re not a lesbian and if you were you’d totally go for me, not Edie, me”

There was something in the way Susan said her words that made Gabrielle think that she was being questioned, and Susan needed to hear why she had a change of heart.

“Well excuse me Susan but in case you didn’t notice, you’re married and pregnant” She pointed out to her growing belly.

“So?” Susan still stood her ground, crossing her hands as she looked at Gabrielle with patronizing eyes.

“Susan…Edie and I came to develop some feelings after surviving the hurricane together so we decided to give it a shot in an attempt to be happy. So please, let me be happy” she said as she carried her bags from the car and went inside.

“Well I bet Carlos is not happy being in a hospital all alone!!” She said after Gaby closed the door, screaming yet wanting her voice to be a little muffled for her ears.

Susan curled her lips, tears almost welling, Gaby didn’t even look at her boobs, she specifically wore a push up bra for her!!

“I’m home,” Gaby announced, and was met with Edie in pink lingerie, looking at her mischievously, “Oh wow, you’re…pretty”

“Oh tell me something I don’t know” Edie grabbed her from the collar, taking her in a passionate kiss.

“Wait!” Gaby announced, making Edie stop, “we should totally take this upstairs”

They ran excitedly to their room, jumping onto the bed while their hands were roaming each other’s bodies, the heat of the moment escalating the more they kiss, the more they love. One by one their clothes dropped on the ground, their raw skin covered in sweat as they found themselves positioning between each other’s legs, their private parts grinding awkwardly but nevertheless hungrily.

And thus, Edie and Gaby had their first time with a woman, and they both decided that they’re definitely doing this again.

Susan returned home and locked herself in her room. Her whole life, she had trouble with being rejected, she needed everyone to love her and that now included Gaby.

She suffocated herself with her duvet, thinking that she must be so unattractive for Gaby to not be attracted to her. Like come on in what world would Edie be better than her?

Susan was still bitter, but for the sake of their friendship, she will not do anything ‘Susan-like’ and jinx Gaby's relationship, after all, she really wanted her to be happy, even if it was without her.

“Susan, are you crying?” Bree knocked the door, having caught the glimpse of the woman walking upstairs with a hint of tears in her eyes.

“NO I’M FINE” she screamed back, suffocating herself even more as she swallowed her teary hiccups.

It was a well known fact that Susan Mayer was a little childish, but this time, she did the right thing, and like any grown adult, she just cried it out without causing destruction.
