Chapter Text
“Come on Wormy, this is going to be our year!”
“Yeah Pete, lighten up- Sirius is right, we’ve finally made it to fourth year-!”
Peter rolls his eyes, huffing and turning his attention back to a chocolate frog he was unwrapping and saying as gruffly as he could, which was not very intimidating, especially since he was surrounded by a pile of discarded chocolate frog cards that kept pulling rude faces at him.
“Yeah I’m sure it will be for you guys, just like every other y- Merlin’s sake another Dumbledore!”
Peter chucks the card in the growing pile, turning his attention to the three other boys, James Potter and Sirius Black, both on either end of James’ bed, and Remus Lupin sitting on his own reading some book about charms and trying (and failing) to hide a smirk. After successfully gaining Peter’s attention the raven haired boy turned his focus towards Remus, a sly grin spread across his pale face as leapt off James’ bed and leap into Lupin’s.
“OOF- Black get off me-!”
Sirius just grinned, grabbing the book out of the other boys hands and throwing to the side before wrapping his arms around Remus
“Oh come on Moony~ You know you love me~”
The brown haired boy just grinned looking at Sirius, clearly trying to seem more annoyed than he actually was. Remus rolls his eyes before sitting up, using his two arms to prop himself (and Sirius who was basically draped across him) up. He leaned in his face inches from the other boy.
“You’re lucky I tolerate you”
Over on his own bed Peter watches this scene, pulling a face that must have been a mix between awkwardness and like he was going to projectile vomit because in the next second James turned his attention way from sticking up a Falmouth Falcons quidditch poster up and remarked,
“Uh.. You good over there Wormy? You’re not going to get sick again like in first year are you-?”
Peter felt his cheeks flush bright pink as he turned to James,
“That was one time-!! A-and it wasn’t even that bad..”
“Tell that to the poor house elf who had to clean up after it”
Sirius smirked as he and Lupin turned their attention towards Peter, who was looking between his friends like a very pink, cornered rat. Remus, however sat up in his bed, looking over at him with genuine concern.
“Seriously though Pete, is everything alright..?”
Peter fidgets with a chocolate frog card in his hand, deliberating whether he should tell his friends what he is so uncomfortable with.
“Well.. you know.. it’s just the whole lovey-dovey relationship thing- It’s the same with James and Lily, no offence James, but like- I just don’t get it-”
Sirius sits up straight and Remus sighs softly crossing his legs, his soft hazel eyes looking over at Peter, as he says his voice gentle but apologetic,
“Oh- sorry Worms I didn’t know you felt like that..”
“Yeah sorry Pete you know how Remus gets carried away, such a fan of PDA and all that”
Sirius says, a small joking grin on his lips, as he sits up and walk over to Peter’s bed and clapping him on the back, trying to reassure his friend.
“But don’t worry about it, I’m sure you’ll be pulling all the girls this year- especially, with James and I off the market, officially- ”
“You’re right.. thanks Sirius..”
Peter says a small smile on his lips, however his heart was not fully in it. But his words seemed to be good enough for the other three boys who flopped down on their own separate beds, Remus using a spell to turn off the lights, the stove in the middle of the room becoming the only source of light.
“Goodnight guys”
“Night mates”
“Sleep blissfully my dearest Remus~ Also goodnight to you two or whatever”
“Sleep well”
Peter did not, infact, sleep well that night. He kept replaying Sirius’s words in his head — “you’ll be pulling all the girls this year” — and wondering why they made him feel so wrong.
