Work Text:

'Hi, sweet potato,' a tired yawn had parted her human, whom stretched and shuffled tiredly toward her. Amity was sitting in the kitchen, drinking tea beside Willow.

Willow had been the one to make it, as Amity had been putting the bags on the outside of the mugs rather than inside. Amity had done this more than once so Willow decided to take charge and assist.

'Morning, batata.' Amity responded, moving her hand over to catch Luz's arm and give it a small stroke in an affectionate manner as she walked past. Luz paused, leaning down to kiss Amity's head before straightening up and moving toward the kitchen.

Camila didn't have work today, and Luz gave a small smile. 'Hola, mami,' she rumbled tiredly, gently headbutting her mother's shoulder in a tired expression as she stirred a cup of coffee rather than tea. 'Make me one?'

'Ah, bebé,' Camila chuckled. 'Sure, I can do that… Just sit down.' Luz nodded, moving back tiredly and plopping down beside Amity.

Sleep hadn't come for the girl, at-least, not fully. She slept in intervals and the rest of the time she was awake and stressing about King and Eda. Titan, King and Eda. She hoped they were alright.

A hand was rested upon her shoulder and she glanced at Amity, whom had a knack for sensing when she was upset and had already swooped in to comfort her. Luz moved, gently resting her hand against Amity's arm. '..I'm alright, Amity. Seriously, just… Tired.'

Amity raised an eyebrow, before sighing. She stirred her teabag in the dark liquid of her tea in thought, seemingly taking in what Luz was saying before huffing. 'Well, I'm worried, so you can't get rid of me that easily.' Was the response.

'If you need someone to talk to,' Camila broke in from the kitchen, carrying in a cup of coffee and placing it in-front of Luz. 'I'm always here, hija, unless you'd like to talk to a professional…'

'You think they'd believe me if I started talking about witches and demons?' Luz questioned.

'Ah, well..' Camila then trailed off. She hadn't believed it either, not until she had saved Vee from the Museum. She remembered how scared and confused she was. She blinked, and for a few moments didn't say much before glancing aside. 'Well, I'm always here.' She remarked.

Luz nodded, giving an appreciative smile. 'I know, mami, it's okay.' She responded.

Amity then huffed from beside Luz, before leaning against her shoulder as she took a sip of the coffee she had been given. 'Well, I already feel a lot more awake.' The human commented with a smile.

When she was younger, if she were to have a sip of even a rather mild coffee, she'd absolutely bounce off the walls and give Camila a hard time, much to her mother's dismay. It had caused her to ban her from drinking caffeine for a good while, but of-course that rule had been updated.

Obviously, it was lactose free milk rather than actual milk, as Luz was also lactose intolerant.

When she did finish her mug, she had already began to shift the papers around the coffee table. They were filled with scribbles and notes on how to exactly build a portal. They hadn't been successful at all, research or not.

They had even started a fire once or twice.

She was trying to remain hopeful, but it was hard. It was difficult and annoying and it always made Luz incredibly anxious.

She sighed, lifting herself off of her chair before hopping on one foot to fully wake herself up. She then moved toward the couch, taking a few papers with her to rescue a pen from the coffee table, deciding it would be easier to remain there.

Amity had watched, before taking a big swig of the tea to finish it and then following after Luz fretfully. She was far more alert to Luz's emotions ever since she had arrived, and the witch had noted the constant feeling of guilt that practically pooled off of her in waves. It was upsetting to see her in such a state.

Luz was now furiously scribbling on the paper as Amity plopped down beside her. '…So, any luck?' Amity asked with a small smile, tipping her head.

'We should already be starting to build the next portal, I just…' She trailed off. 'I don't understand what I'm doing wrong.'

Amity then leaned against Luz's side, brushing against her with a smile of her own. It was good that Luz was venting her frustration, it was most definitely better than nothing. '..It'll be okay,' Amity replied simply. '…You just need to relax, batata.'

Luz took in a deep breath, and she didn't look at Amity for several heartbeats which made her raise an eyebrow.

'You're right,' Luz eventually responded. 'I'm just… Not sure how.'

'Mm.' Amity hummed. To be fair, she wasn't really good at relaxing. After all of these years and with a family like hers, it was always difficult to be at ease. '..Well, I'm sure you need a break, for starters. You just woke up.' She stated simply, moving to pluck the pen from Luz's grip.

In return, Luz grumbled. But, Amity was right. Normally, it'd be Luz to say something along those lines. '…Okay.' She responded, moving over to gently lean against Amity. Amity rested her palm against her cheek and used her elbow to prop herself up and allowing Luz to rest more appropriately against her stomach.

Luz's head was leaning against her belly and her arms landing over Luz's shoulders, her hands resting limply against Luz's sides as the human closed her eyes. Amity then purred, looking rather pleased that her human was actually getting some rest.

They sat in silence for several moments, and eventually small snores elicited from the human's lips. Amity did purr occasionally as she shut her eyes, but she didn't sleep like Luz was.

Eventually, Hunter and Gus had resurfaced from downstairs, and Hunter was going to ask if Luz was okay until Gus raised a finger to his lip and beckoned him into the kitchen with the rest.

'Luz and Amity are sleeping on the couch?' Hunter inquired as he raised an eyebrow.

'Yeah, Luz has been tired for a while. Amity finally convinced her to rest.' Vee replied from next to Camila.

'…That's good,' Gus stated with a small smile. 'We could probably make some progress on the portal?'

Willow nodded from the table, eventually standing up and dusting herself off. 'Good idea,' she replied, glancing at Vee with a smile. '..And if you could supervise in-case we need…'

'Fire extinguisher,' Vee finished for them. 'Yes, I'll supervise. Don't worry.' She added with a little smile of her own, and so the group moved in a pack outside of the front door.

Amity had opened en eye to glance at them as they left, before she gently rubbed Luz's shoulders while she slept, giving her a kiss on her forehead.

So, the two simply lied there for a while, Amity carefully watching over her human.

Luz had eventually ended up being more well-rested, which was easy to see as she yawned and stretched. '..Thanks, sweet potato,' she rumbled, and Amity had pulled her into another embrace.

'Of-course,' the witch replied. '..Anything. And besides, you needed it. And besides, I'm happy to cuddle any time.' She remarked with a smile, gently caressing Luz's cheek which made the human chuckle. Amity's thumb moved to gently swipe along Luz's eyebrow, noting the scar that had found it's way to permanence upon her facial. '..But please get some more sleep.'

'..I will,' Luz replied, leaning up and kissing Amity's lips which made the witch's face flush.

'..Good.'
