Work Text:
"Can I cut in?" Felix asked, tapping Gorski on the shoulder in a way that was liable to get him shot again if they were in America. Without waiting for an answer, he boldly held his hand out to Will's dance partner: the DJ Riley Blue. "Dance with me."
"The balls on this guy," Will muttered but he was smiling and Riley was beaming.
"I'd love to," she said, accepting Felix's hand with a dismissive shrug at her man. She was so fucking cute and totally out of Felix's league by coolness factor alone, but they'd murdered people together and were attending an interspecies lesbian wedding at the top of the Eiffel Tower, and there was definitely something more than pot in those fairy brownies so why the fuck not?
Felix suggestively raised his eyebrows at Will before twirling his girl away from him. "We almost went to one of your shows, me and Wolfie. You probably knew that though."
She shook her head. "No. He never said."
"Wolfgang never said something? That seems unlikely."
Riley laughed. Wolfie was currently not saying something to Kala, the two of them swaying together in silent harmony while Rajan took a phone call away from the crowd.
"But you're…you know…psychic."
"It's not quite that straightforward. The memory is there but I don't necessarily know about it to access it, if that makes sense."
He shrugged. Made about as much sense as it ever would. Kala had explained the whole sensate thing to him better than Wolfie, but suddenly having an international mutant army at their disposal after fifteen years of it being just the two of them was still taking some getting used to.
"Now that you bring it up, I can get a feel for it." She closed her eyes for a second, her expression growing sad. "Your girlfriend was at my show with someone else."
"Yeah." It never would've lasted anyway, but at the time it had hurt bad. And he wasn't hot enough to just fuck them both. He wasn't Wolfie. "We went back to my place and watched movies instead."
"Conan the Barbarian, Conan the Destroyer, and Red Sonja. You were really going through it."
"Getting cheated on sucks but there's always Conan." With a glance at Rajan, he added, "unless he's the one stealing your girl."
Riley sighed. "He seems to be taking it well. Right from the start, he just wanted to help. He truly loves her."
"He's not the only one." Felix had never seen Wolfgang like this. Even his longest relationships could still be measured in hours. Kala was the real deal, which would've made her being married a bit more than complicated if Wolfie and Rajan weren't constantly holding hands and exchanging bicurious glances. The only part of their love triangle that was actually complicated was getting the three of them together already. "How's Wolfie doing?"
"They're both trying to enjoy the moment while it lasts. He's being pessimistic and bracing himself for heartbreak, she's trying to think her way out of a situation that requires communication. So, the usual for them." Pessimism might've been the usual for Wolfie, but treading lightly with someone he desired was definitely not. Someones. "You and Rajan kept in touch when they went back to Mumbai. Has he said anything?"
Kept in touch didn't quite cover it. Like with Fuchs, Felix had been bought and paid for: weeks spent in Rajan's Paris apartment with Rajan's credit card, anything his materialistic little heart desired at the palm of his hand without even needing a five finger discount. Fuchs had wisely taken a different approach than Volker Bohm and figured out the best way to Wolfie's good side was through his friend, but there were no bars on Rajan's gilded cage. That credit card was a deposit on a very expensive gift for his wife: her soul mate, out of danger and out of Berlin, wrapped up with a bow.
Rajan never asked for receipts, but he sure as shit asked about Wolfie. All day every day. He was clearly infatuated with him even if he didn't know what to do about it, and Wolfie was showing uncharacteristic restraint about the whole thing instead of just fucking his brains out in front of his wife. "He's said plenty. I think they're both just waiting for Kala's permission to bang."
With a glance over her shoulder at them, Riley smiled. "They might be waiting awhile."
"Nope. I'm going nuclear wingman. I'm tired of Rajan's little check ins to make sure his wife's boyfriend is having a good time with his money, and Wolfie moping around acting like this isn't a done deal. I'm kicking his ass out tonight and he ain't coming home until we're Indians."
She giggled. "Well it looks like Rajan's off the phone. Dher sārī śubhkāmnāen."
"The fuck was that?"
"Good luck. In a language you'd better learn if you're going to be Indian."
"Scheisse." Sounded like Wolfie wasn't the only one getting fucked. But if Felix could handle anything, it was talking. And drugs. He grabbed another brownie as the fairies danced past.
Riley graciously declined sharing and gave him a kiss on the cheek before heading back to her cop. He was honestly half in love with Wolfie's entire cluster and all their friends and that wasn't even because of the previous two brownies he'd eaten. Raising his third in a toast to Riley's dad who was on at least that many, Felix went to go fulfill his wingman duties.
Rajan was indeed off the phone but hadn't moved back to the dance floor, looking between his wife in the arms of another man and the phone in his hand with uncertainty on his face. Competing against Wolfgang Bogdanow was not for the faint of heart. But if you couldn't beat him, you may as well join him in bed.
"Must've been a pretty important phone call to break apart that Kala sandwich you three had going on," Felix said.
With color rising to his cheeks, Rajan opened his mouth to speak and found he had no idea what to say. Felix took the phone and slipped it back in his pocket, then took his hand and pulled him into a waltz. Rajan didn't question it and he didn't try to lead, which was just further proof this whole India Plan was going to be perfect. Between Wolfie and Kala, the man would never be allowed to lead again.
"My friend Ajay," he said finally. "Former friend. It's complicated."
"Complicated like your wife and my Wolfgang?" Felix gave him a twirl which succeeded in taking Rajan's eyes off his wife and soon-to-be-his Wolfgang for all of two seconds.
"Different kind of complicated." Rajan craned his neck to keep sight of them as Felix shifted their positions, then smiled self-consciously and gave up. "How are you? Enjoying the wedding?"
"Not as much as I'm gonna enjoy the after party." He nodded to the dancing fairies who may not have been locals but they definitely knew where to find a good time. "Speaking of, I'm gonna need the apartment to myself tonight. Poor Wolfie will have nowhere to go. It's pretty chilly out. Will probably rain. You wouldn't want him to be out there all alone, cold and wet..."
Rajan looked up, checking for the impending deluge. The man was gullible on a whole other level. How a guy got to be a multi-billionaire having that bad of a bullshit detector was beyond Felix, but he fully intended to benefit from it. While he and Wolfie ensured nobody else could take that same advantage.
Felix had stolen his wallet again. He didn't even mean to, it was just too easy. "For real though, there's something we should talk about."
"Of course!" Rajan said enthusiastically.
Glancing at Wolfgang who had also managed to pry his eyes away from Kala and was now watching them suspiciously, Felix winked at him. "We have this custom in Germany that's very important. Traditional, you know? I cannot stress enough how much this means to German people. On a cultural level."
Rajan nodded, fully on board.
"Obviously Kala is aware of it as well, what with them being psychically linked."
"Tell me."
"So when your wife has an affair with someone, you are encouraged—nay, expected—to also have an affair with that person."
"Felix," he laughed and shook his head but Felix was not deterred.
"It's really offensive if you don't. Culturally."
Wolfie and Kala were approaching. He was out of time. "Something to keep in mind, man." He gave him back his wallet. "Fuck my friend. It's just polite."
"Are you on drugs right now?"
He shrugged. "Ja. Und?"
"Can we cut in?" Kala sternly interrupted, Wolfgang behind her trying very hard not to smile.
"He's all yours." He handed Rajan off to his wife and slipped Rajan's hotel room keycard into Wolfgang's pocket. Wolfie just looked down and grinned before letting them drag him away.
"You are doing the Lord's work," Dani said.
"I know it."
