Work Text:

putting on his thickest coat, yeonjun sighed. he hated going out in winter, when the wind would hit his face harshly and make his toes numb despite wearing two pairs of socks. but he decided that it’d be worth it to make his boyfriend happy, who desperately wanted to go out to richmond for a night date.

yeonjun was constantly teased by his friends for how he always seemed to give up whatever he was doing for beomgyu, even before they had began dating. it was what had made his crush on him so obvious. obvious to everyone except beomgyu apparently, who had confessed he had no clue that yeonjun liked him until he told him straight up. he smiled at the fond memory before remembering to text said boyfriend about if he had left his house yet.

-leaving now!

after an excruciatingly long bus ride, they had arrived, with yeonjun immediately complaining about the drop in temperature when getting off the bus, and beomgyu giggling.

“can we go to itsu first? i’m hungry.”
“where is it?”
“i’ll show you the way.”

each time beomgyu said that he’d show him the way, he just held onto his hand and dragged him behind him, occasionally looking back and bickering at him to hurry up. it was a habit that yeonjun had grown well accustomed to over the past few months. yeonjun always acted like he hated it, knowing it was really the exact opposite. both of them knew.

the walk there was fairly short, around five minutes, and yeonjun sighed in relief upon feeling the warmth of the restaurant.

beomgyu immediately ran up to the shelves of food, intently scanning the selection. yeonjun caught up a few seconds after bathing in the heat of the restaurant.

“what are you gonna get, gyu?”
“i’m torn between the salmon teriyaki or chicken bao buns. i’ve never tried the bao buns here before.”

yeonjun being the head over heels loser he is for his boyfriend, immediately offered to buy them both for him. while waiting for the bao buns to be heated up, beomgyu went and found a seat for them both in a secluded corner of the restaurant.

“here baby.” yeonjun spoke softly, handing his boyfriend his food.

a hushed “thank you” left beomgyu’s mouth while he broke apart the chopsticks and began eating. he could tell that he had been excited for this, and found himself smiling when beomgyu mumbled about how much he liked it halfway through chewing. anybody else would’ve probably found it disgusting or at the very least offputting, however yeonjun was far too gone, and found anything beomgyu did adorable, which resulted in him spending most of their time at the restaurant looking at him until his own food went cold.

carrying his leftovers in a takeaway bag, yeonjun was about to ask beomgyu where to go next when he asked to get hot chocolate from a nearby cafe. yeonjun being yeonjun, of course complied.

despite the cafe itself being slightly cramped, the atmosphere wasn’t uncomfortable. it was just an excuse for yeonjun to take advantage of their height gap and put his head on beomgyu’s, all while hugging him from behind. kissing his head, beomgyu murmured about deciding between white or milk chocolate for his drink, being unable to decide.

“why don’t i buy you both so i can just drink the one you like less?”

beomgyu turned around to look up at him and smile.

“thank you junnie.”

and so, a few minutes later at the tables, beomgyu was having a very detailed taste test, declaring his thoughts in extreme detail after each sip.

“the white chocolate one is sweeter but more milky while the milk chocolate one is more runny. both are very good, but i think i like more the white chocolate one more… no, wait.”

it ended up in beomgyu writing a pros and cons list on his phone, and when he had decided upon one, he had drank halfway through each of the drinks. he also had a slightly burnt tongue. yeonjun just laughed and kissed him softly.

“i like the milk chocolate one more. here, have the white chocolate one.”

beomgyu handed the milk chocolate drink to yeonjun, but not before taking a quick sip of it, resulting in yeonjun giggling again.

leaving the cafe, beomgyu took lead and dragged yeonjun to raygun. the familiar sound of the bell ringing upon entering brang yeonjun back to when the two had just met and decided to go there after school together. beomgyu hadn’t forgotten either as he brang him over to the plushie section, and asked

“i remember you buying me that pachirisu plushie here. you said it looked like taehyun.”
“was i wrong though?”
“no.”

the two giggled, and beomgyu became invested in digging through the hoard of plushies, while yeonjun wandered off to look at the wide array of comics. about fifteen minutes later, yeonjun had a hefty stack of comics in his hand, and decided to look around for beomgyu, which was now digging through the loose stickers. wrapping his arms around his waist, yeonjun decided to peek over at what stickers beomgyu was getting.

“you’re getting rilakkuma stickers? you’re a twenty-four year old man.”
“a twenty-four year old man who wants to be cute, thank you very much.”
“cute guy gravitates to cute things, who would’ve thought.”

yeonjun kissed his head and went to look at posters. he was however, disrupted by beomgyu, who whined for him to come back. yeonjun giggled, but came back of course. their relationship occasionally felt like they were having a competition over who’s the clingiest, with no clear winner.

after another ten minutes of careful picking through the stickers, beomgyu decided on twelve stickers.and three washi tapes... and a teddiursa plushie. yeonjun was starting to regret not getting a bigger bag as the itsu one didn’t look like it’d suffice.

yeonjun left the shop having forty-one pounds less in his bank account, but he gained an even bigger smile on beomgyu’s face, which he figured was a fair trade. he’d definitely spend way more on him if he could. despite that, a sigh of relief left his mouth when beomgyu asked to sit by the river instead of going to another shop, and then giggled at his reaction.

“excuse you!”
“sorry, gyu. you know i’d still spoil you even if i was dead broke though.”

beomgyu just rolled his eyes and took yeonjun’s hand into his, walking over to the river. it felt as though it was always busy there, the people at restaurants lighting up the atmosphere with their conversations, being ambient background noise. it felt just right for the two of them, strolling around. although they weren’t talking, they didn’t feel like it was awkward or out of place. they simply enjoyed each other’s presence, together.

their walk lead them over to an empty bench and they took a seat, gazing at the stars which had become visible. yeonjun felt a light squeeze in his hand, and squeezed back softly. looking to his side, beomgyu was looking at him lovingly, as if he was begging for a kiss without his words. yeonjun just smiled and peppered kisses all over his face, making beomgyu giggle.

beomgyu rested his head on yeonjun’s shoulder, and yeonjun ran his fingers through his hair, occasionally scratching it a bit for him. he felt beomgyu tug on his sleeve a little, and yeonjun rested his head against his.

in that moment, he realised that he hadn’t noticed that the air had gotten colder. maybe it was because beomgyu was his warmth.
