Chapter Text

Prologue

Kim Seonwoo knew he was weird.

Not the “quirky and mysterious” kind of weird you see in coming-of-age movies—no, his was the socially incompatible, cartoon-obsessed, emotionally overinvested kind.

While everyone on campus spent their weekends gushing over K-pop idols or live-reacting to the latest rom-coms, Seonwoo was still in his dorm, curled up with a plushie, rewatching My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and taking mental notes on how “Pinkie Pie handled rejection maturely.”

He was, in short, the biggest nerd you could ever meet.

But here’s the thing about Seonwoo: weird didn’t mean useless.

Because for some inexplicable reason—he had a gift.

Not for sports. Not for math.

For love.

More specifically: giving love advice.

It all started in freshman year, when his lab partner-slash-geeky best friend, Jiwon, came to him crying over her crush on the school’s golden boy quarterback, Mingyu. She was convinced it was hopeless.

Seonwoo, however, saw it as a mission.

And when Seonwoo has a mission, he commits.

He spent three days stalking—sorry, researching—the boy’s social media, curating Jiwon’s “chance encounters” like a drama screenwriter. He even made her memorize the boy’s favorite manga so she could “accidentally” quote it in front of him.

“It’s just research,” he told her, typing furiously on his laptop. “Very necessary.”

Two weeks later, they were holding hands by the lockers.

Rumor spread like wildfire.

“How the fuck did she pull him?!”

“I heard she had help.”

“From who?”

“From that geek. Kim Seonwoo.”

And just like that, Cupid was born.

💘

By sophomore year, Seonwoo’s “advice sessions” had turned into a full-on side hustle.

His clients ranged from the awkward gamer who wanted to confess to the cheer captain, to the student council treasurer who needed help drafting a professionally formatted love letter.

He treated every case like a research paper.

Color-coded files. Personality charts. PowerPoints titled “Operation Lovebomb: Phase One.”

There was the shy literature girl who liked her poetry club senior. Seonwoo coached her to “accidentally” leave her annotated copy of The Great Gatsby on his desk—with a note inside that read “So we beat on, boats against the current, hearts against the tide.”

They were dating by the next week.

Then there was the class clown who couldn’t get over his ex. Seonwoo created a seven-step “Emotional Detachment Plan,” complete with self-care playlists, affirmations, and a scientifically calculated haircut schedule.

The boy didn’t just move on—he became student body president.

Seonwoo never bragged, but he kept a notebook titled “Confirmed Success Stories 💘” under his bed.

Thirty-two cases. Thirty-two happy endings.

He didn’t do it for the money (okay, maybe a little bit).

He did it because, deep down, it felt good.

Helping people find love gave him something warm and fluttery inside—a feeling that whispered, maybe love really does exist.

He just didn’t expect to become the most sought-after matchmaker on campus.

Or that, one day, some people would walk into his little pink office (his classroom desk), smirk, and ruin his entire system.

Someone like Nishimura Ri-ki... And maybe a couple of others.

💘
