This is it.
It was finally the end of one long and tiring run.
The boys were at the rooftop, watching the sunset. Both of them had taken their shoes off and put their school bags beside them. The concrete that had cooled in the cold October breeze was right under their feet. They didn't care about how cold it was, not like it would matter in a minute.
They didn't care about anything except each other at this moment. To them, the other mattered the most in this entire world and nobody else was of concern.
They gazed softly at each other with the most gentle of smiles on their faces, which were colored in shades of black, blue and red.
The boys were always black, blue and red; either from school, home or themselves. They can't remember when or how they had found each other and they can't exactly tell when their friendship had shifted into something more, though it didn't matter to them. They didn't need to put a label to their love, both of them know it's something much more than friends.
The two of them leaned forward and caught each other's lips in a kiss. They both think to themselves about how it's a shame that they'll never feel the softness of each other's lips again, the warmth of each other's arms again, so might as well enjoy these last moments with each other.
The purple haired boy ran his fingers through the other boy's hair before feeling a pair of hands at his hips that pulled him in closer. He wrapped his arms around his lover's shoulders which only deepened their kiss. The feeling of each other's mouths for the final time, the feeling of their bodies being so close to each other for one last time made their hearts race.
After a little bit, the boys finally parted with a thin string of saliva connecting them. They looked into each other's eyes again. They saw the pain that everybody had brushed off for years, they saw exhaustion that can't be communicated through words, they saw terror that had been built up for years, all behind those ocean eyes of theirs.
They embraced each other into one final hug, squeezing the other as tightly as possible. They didn't want to let go and they wished if they could stay like this forever, but they knew it had to end.
The boys finally parted after a short while and got on the edge of the rooftop while holding hands.
“Any last words before we go?” asked the purple haired boy.
“Thank you for everything you've done to me. I love you with my entire soul,” answered the slightly shorter guy.
“Thank YOU for everything YOU'VE done to me, I'll love you until the last star in oblivion burns out,” shot back the slightly taller guy.
After one final smile, they leaned forward.
They're pleased that the last thing they'll see will be each other.
Their entire fall lasted no more than three seconds, but it felt like an eternity. The cold air breeze felt soothing, their heartbeats only got faster and faster because they knew that this is the end– they knew that there's no returning from this.
They were happy, genuine smiles on their faces. They were finally free for the first and last time in their lives.
Ever since childhood, they've only had each other. They bonded over their shared experiences of having families who didn't want them, being shunned away and hurt by their peers due to the fact that they were different, they had nobody except each other. They were no more than souls rejected by life itself. They weren't loved by anyone except each other.
The outside world didn't matter to them anymore. They lived in their own makeshift world where everything was perfect but deep down, they knew it couldn't go on like this. They knew that they needed to reach a conclusion in which they'll be happy and death seemed like the best option to them.
They were failing most of their classes, they had no talents, they had nobody, they 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦 nobody.
They predicted that nobody would care about them after they were gone. In fact, they believed that it was the best outcome for everybody: their families didn't need to carry heavy burdens such as themselves anymore, their schools got rid of two of their worst students, nobody would need to spend time and energy on them anymore; but most importantly, they were gonna be free and they were gonna be happy wherever they go, because they knew they'll go together.
Then everything went dark.
People gathered around the scene and some screamed in horror at the sight of two teenage boys with their heads split open and bleeding. Their eyes were completely lifeless and the entire scene looked like something you'd see in a horror movie.
People called the ER as quick as possible, but they knew it was completely hopeless. Those were the faces of people who didn't have lives anymore.
The boys were identified using the ID cards found in their pockets. Their names were “Fuuga Kaito” and “Kamui Gakupo”.
Their funeral ceremonies were held a few days later with only their parents showing up. Not out love for their children, rather, out of unwillingness to ruin their own reputations.
Their predictions were correct– nobody ever thought of them after the funeral ceremony.
They say humans die twice: The first time is when their heart stops beating, and the second time is when their name is forgotten to time. If that were true, these two boys have already died twice when the local news stopped caring about them. The headlines were about them for only a week, and then everything went quiet and their names were forever forgotten, never to be remembered again.
Though, despite the fact that they were completely wiped off the face of earth in roughly a week, they couldn't have it any better.
They were up there now, carefree and finally allowed to be themselves without the fear of consequences.
“Wings look good on you,” remarked the slightly taller guy.
“Always the flirt,” replied his lover while jokingly rolling his eyes.
“Hey! I can't help that you look good,” said the guy as a horrible attempt at trying to defend himself.
Even though for them, anywhere is okay if they have each other; this place was nice, they already liked it here better than earth.
