Work Text:

He was hungry.

It was the middle of summer. It was hot, he was hungry, and he really couldn't think about anything else than the rumbling in his gut.

He walked past Engie, who was fixing up the van they had recently destroyed in the bread incident. He had grease stains all over his overalls, and he was leaning over the hood like a scientist pouring over data. Scout nodded at him as he walked by, earning only a curt grunt from the older man as he continued to pry at something with his wrench. Scout didn't acknowledge it.

He walked over, grabbed the handle of the fridge, and yanked it open. The clinking of the bottles in the door echoed throughout the small garage space as he poked his head inside. The cool air was a welcome feeling. He took a moment to relish in it, before scanning the items on the shelves for something that interested him.

And then, he saw it.

Nestled right in between the remnants of the bread experiment Medic shoved in there, and Heavy's sandwich, was a small 12 pack of mozzarella cheese sticks. The little cartoon mascot was smiling up at Scout with those wide pie cut eyes, and chubby dimpled cheeks. Scout was instantly thrown back into his childhood in Boston with his Ma. Visions of scraped knees covered with Scooby-Doo band-aids and playing baseball in the street with the kids on his block flooded his mind. But what stood out the most at this moment, was the memory of a lovingly prepared plate of cheese sticks and peanut butter crackers from his Ma, with a tall glass of cold lemonade waiting for him when he came back inside. Scout stood there wide-eyed, before excitedly grabbing the package, and turning to Engineer.

"Engie!!" He shouted as a massive grin spread across his face. "Since when did we have these??"

Engineer took a moment to look up, adjusting his goggles as he took a look at scout. He squinted behind the goggles as he eyed the package in his hand. "Oh those!" He exclaimed once he recognized what they were. "I think Medic got em for ya, something about needing more protein, I dunno."

All Engie could hear as he turned around was the scuffling of Scout's shoes on the concrete as he dashed back inside the base. Scout ran down the hallway, and straight to Medic's office, bursting through the door with gusto.

"MEDIC-" Scout exclaimed, one hand still on the door as he held up the package of cheese sticks. "Did you get these?!"

Medic, who was filling out some kind of paperwork, jumped in his seat at the sudden intrusion. "Lieber Gott-!" He shouted, accidentally flinging his pen up in the air as he flinched. "What? What is it?"

"These!" Scout shook the package in his hand. "Did you get these?"

Medic, still panting slightly, took a moment to catch his breath as he observed what the hell Scout was shaking in his hand. Once he recognized it, he sighed. "Oh, those," he said with a slight chuckle. "I've noticed you've been somewhat lethargic lately, and your recent blood panel showed a lack of protein. I saw those on sale today and I thought it would be a fun way to give you a boost!"

Scout rushed forward, bracing the desk as he got uncomfortably close to Medic.

"I. Love you."

He paused. He popped his lips and leaned back.

"Okay, not actually. Well- not in a gay way, not that there's anythin' wrong with that-"

Medic blinked, utterly confused. "Scout-"

"But-!" Scout continued. "These," He shook the package again. "Made my whole day. Keep getting them."

"Uh-" Before Medic could get another word in, Scout ran back out of his office with the excitement of a small child. Medic looked around, still very confused by what the hell just transpired inside his office. As he came to his senses, he shouted a slightly hesitant, "I'm glad you like them!" before grabbing a sticky note from his desk drawer, and writing
