Chapter Text
"My dearest, you've made it."
Eternal Sugar greeted her beloved as he walked into the nursery. "I apologize I hadn't came sooner, I rode as soon as I received your letter," Blueberry Milk Cookie took off his hat and held it close to his chest, "did everything- is he-" the cookie stumbled over his words. Eternal Sugar Cookie turned around, revealing a bundle of purple dough in her arms, "he's beautiful" she whispered. The Fount drifted forward towards his wife, arms reaching out to hold his new young, gently handling his fresh soft dough in his palms. He looked down and pulled back the silk cloth the baby was bundled in and saw his gentle dark lavender dough and soft whisps of black velvet hair. "Have we thought of a name, sugar?" Blueberry Milk Cookie looked up as he gently rocked his new son back and forth, "I'm unsure, his ingredients is primarily just my sugar cookie dough-"
"Trying to say I didn't contribute enough flour?"
"Of course not darling," Eternal Sugar Cookie held her lover's face, "I just wish you'd be here more often." Blueberry Milk looked back down at his new kin, now reaching his open palms out to his father; Blueberry Milk gave the baby his finger to hold onto. "I have a kingdom to rule, and so do you. I understand your pain but we have responsibilities, sweetheart." Eternal Sugar looked down at her son with her husband, "How about Sapphire Cookie? I think he'd be a beautiful icon of fashion."
"He's purple, though, sapphires are usually blue." Blueberry Milk Cookie corrected, "Gosh, so smart, so tedious~" his wife gently pushed on his shoulder as she mocked him. "I like Sapphire Cookie, perhaps Purple Sapphire Cookie?" Blueberry Milk rolled his eyes as he swayed his baby boy in his arms, "I cannot argue against Sapphire Cookie can I, my love?" He looked back to his beloved's big, pleading eyes. She floated up and went behind her love, looking down at her newest joy. "Black Sapphire Cookie." Blueberry Milk Cookie finally whispered, "what was that, my dearest?" Eternal Sugar Cookie spoke, not fully hearing her husband. "Black Sapphire Cookie. That's his name." He repeated, turning his head to his lover. The Sugar of Happiness smiled wide, eyes sparkling of joy, "I absolutely adore it." She squealed as she wrapped her arms around her lover's neck, kissing his face. The two flourished in their happiness over their newborn before said child began to fuss. He reached his tiny hands out, wailing as he began to beg. "Oh no, my dearest delight!" Eternal Sugar immediately scooped the baby up from Blueberry Milk's arms. The Sugar of Happiness grabbed a bottle of milk from a sugar stand right beside Black Sapphire's cradle and bring it to her son's lips. The baby desperately grabbled his little hands onto the bottle as he began to feed, looking up at his mother with bright eyes. Blueberry Milk Cookie crept to the window, pushing back the silky curtains to look down at the cookies of the Garden of Sweet Delights. Down below, the cookies jump about in reliance of their endless happiness thanks to their beloved ruler. Now, Blueberry Milk Cookie wondered, did they have a heir to the Throne of Happiness if anything were to happen to Eternal Sugar?
Black Sapphire Cookie sat patiently inside his chariot, waiting to return home. Humming to himself and tapping his fingers against his textbook. The chariot comes to a stop, and the door opens for Black Sapphire to step out. Black Sapphire was guided along into his mother's castle with knights beside him, cookies in awe waving and cooing for his attention. The young cookie quickly ran through the empty sugary hallways, his footsteps echoing as he fastened to his room. Black Sapphire Cookie burst through his door and quickly throws his textbooks and journals onto his bed and quickly changes out of his school's uniform. Theres a gentle knock at his door as he's struggling to slip his waistcoat over his tiny back wings. "Black Sapphire Cookie," a maid had called through the other side of the door, "your mother is requesting you in the Raspberry Jam Rosary Garden." The little cookie finally popped his little lavender wings through the slits of his waistcoat, being quick to tying the back. The maid cookie had continued to knock, "Black Sapphire Cookie?" "Yes, yes!! I'll be there soon!!"
Little hasty footsteps flooded the wide sugarcube column hallways, a mischievous cookie combing his hair back to look more presentable for his mother. Alas, he'd reach the gates for the garden with Gentle Sugar Angels ready to open the gate for their prince. "Oh there's my dearest delight~!" Eternal Sugar Cookie turned from the cookie she was aiding, lifting into flight and rushing towards her son. "How was the academy? Your father told me he made a special curriculum just for you." The Sugar of Happiness took her prince's hand and pulled him towards the crowd of cookies she was just presenting to. "Oh-! It's..its ya know.." Black Sapphire Cookie flustered, he never took the factor of being such an icon too well, being royalty felt so overwhelming embarrassing. How was he ever supposed to be like other cookies his age? How was he ever supposed to be like his parents when he's older? It was all very scary to Black Sapphire, so he'd never been too open in the scene as his mother and father. "Dearest cookies of the Garden of Sweet Delights! Please, welcome your prince!" Eternal Sugar immediately pulled Black Sapphire in front of her, presenting him like a statue as she smiled and waved to the roaring crowd. The cookies screamed, cheering and waving their hands in the air, throwing roses of frosting and fondant towards the mother and son. Black Sapphire Cookie stood frozen, eyes wide and face extremely pink, how did his mother do this so routinely? Everyday? All the time?! Black Sapphire could never image greeting an audience like this frequently for the rest of his life, is he even fit to be a king?
"They love you." His mother whispered in his ear before kissing his cheek. "Come on, I want you to socialize with some aristocratic cookies in our kingdom. You need friends your age." Black Sapphire grumbled as he walked beside his mother, curling in his wings in embarrassment. "Here, go play." The Sugar of Happiness pushed her son towards the gathering young cookies in the Sugar Garden, the young prince could barely understand why his mother was like this; and he never got to learn. "Oh, Black Sapphire Cookie! Please, we're playing chess, come join us!" An aristocrat cookie waved towards him, urging him to come closer. With a sigh and heavy feet, Black Sapphire walked over.
"Oh look at him." Blueberry Milk Cookie placed his hand on top of his wife's shoulder. Today, Black Sapphire Cookie was graduating from his academy. "You've taught him well." Eternal Sugar Cookie rubbed her face against the resting hand, finding peace in her lover's touch. She then looked up at him, "He's going to be a great king."
"Do you think he can handle that responsibility?" Blueberry Milk questioned anxiously, "Being the King of the Garden of Delights is simple, my subjects are beyond happy and fulfilled cookies." Eternal Sugar answered calmly, failing to see her beloved's concern. "But being the king of the Spire of Knowledge is a demanding role." The Fount of Knowledge persisted, "He's going to be the King of the Garden of Delights, we've been over this." Eternal Sugar gritted her teeth with a passive aggressive tone. "Darling-" Blueberry Milk Cookie tried to soothe her but Eternal Sugar was already upset, "I can't do this forever." she whispered. "Neither can I." Blueberry Milk responded, "I guess there's only one solution to this..." Eternal Sugar Cookie darted her gaze to her husband with worry before he kissed her lips. "We just need to birth a new cookie to make it even." Blueberry Milk Cookie said with a sly tone, gently rubbing his darling's cheek. "Oh my goodness, stop it you!" Eternal Sugar Cookie embarrassingly pushed her husband's face away. Black Sapphire Cookie came down from his podium, diploma in hand, and cleared his throat obnoxiously. "O-oh, darling!" Eternal Sugar quickly glided over to her son, kissing his forehead repeatedly. Blueberry Milk looked down upon his son with pride, smiling warmly. "You've made us so proud.." The Sugar of Happiness began to tear up, "Mom, oh my gosh, you're so embarrassing-!" Black Sapphire Cookie curled into his cape and gown. Blueberry Milk began to laugh while patting his son on the back. Here, they were happy. They thought it'd last forever.
"SHADOW MILK COOKIE!!!" A high pitch squeal ran through the hallways, "Tell Black Sapphire to stop!!!!" Candy Apple Cookie whined, missing one of her candy apple pigtails. Shadow Milk Cookie quickly turned from his work desk, "Ugh, I can't stand you two!" Black Sapphire Cookie walked into the room, candy apple in hand, "Perhaps she should stop interfering with my work." was all he said. Shadow Milk snatched the candy apple from his son's hand and roughly reattached it to Candy Apple Cookie's head. "You kiddos just LOVE to get on my nerves, don't you?!" Shadow Milk Cookie hissed through his teeth, "But, Shadow Milk Cookie!" Candy Apple tried to reason, "ENOUGH! You two get back to your SILLY games and LEAVE ME ALONE." The Beast of Deceit was bubbling with rage, "Y-yes master Shadow Milk Cookie..." Candy Apple Cookie stomped out of the room. "As you wish, sir-" "No, come here you." Black Sapphire was interrupted before giving his exiting line. The trickster walked toward his father, confused and worried he was in trouble. Once he reached his father's desk, he saw a familiar photo. Taken back when Black Sapphire Cookie was just born, his mother was cradling him in her arms with pure joy and his father gently wrapped around his wife. The photo was barely held together with tape, it had been torn, crinkled, and even burnt in some places, but they could still faintly see the once happy family. "Do you remember when you graduated from my academy?" Shadow Milk whispered, "and you and mother couldn't agree on which kingdom I'd inherit," Black Sapphire finished, "yes I remember." "We agreed to have a second child to make it even, so we didn't fight, but then-" "The Corruption." Black Sapphire Cookie interrupted his father, "I know." Usually, Shadow Milk Cookie was awfully defensive about the Corruption of the Beasts, but sometimes while remembering what happened, he'd be more understanding. None of this would've never happened if they hadn't turned to the darkness.
"Welp, I guess there's nothing you can do now!" Black Sapphire Cookie quickly went back to character, turning around to leave the room, "you and mother haven't been together for hundreds of years!" He shouted before leaving and shutting the door close. Shadow Milk continued to look at the photo, gently touching where Eternal Sugar Cookie was in the picture. It still hurt, but he could keep a lie going for ages. Shadow Milk would curl and cry over this photo for hours, days at a time. Then he would threaten it burn it or throw it away and forget about it for a few months then run back to the picture. He couldn't seperate himself from what used to be, of the kingdoms Blueberry Milk Cookie and Eternal Sugar Cookie ruled and the son they bore to fulfill their honor. Back when they were the Fount of Knowledge and Sugar of Happiness, back when everything was... Okay.
