Work Text:

It’s going to be fun, they said.

Their songs are amazing, you’re gonna love it, they said.

They’ve won a lot of awards, these guys are so, so good.

Steve’s never trusting a single word that leaves Dustin’s and Mike’s mouths ever again. The main concert didn’t even start yet, and this is already one of the worst experiences of Steve’s life.

Why must these people scream so much? Can’t they, I don’t know, sing like normal people usually do in concerts like these?

Steve curses under his breath as someone elbows him in the ribs. He looks at the clock in his phone and groans when he realizes he still has at least two hours of this nightmare until he can finally grab his dipshits and get the hell out of there.

The lights over the stage turn on, finally illuminating the place, and the crowd start to scream excitedly.

One by one, the band members start walking in and greeting the crowd; first the drummer, then the bassist, one of the guitarist, and, at last, the singer.

The crowd goes nuts. Steve’s head pounds with a headache he knows is gonna stick around for the next couple of days at least. He wishes he could be anywhere but there, but Dustin and Mike are staring at the stage with such devotion, such glee in their faces that Steve just grits his teeth and try not to look too pissed off. He doesn’t want to spoil the boys’ fun.

“Wow, you guys are really happy to see us, huh?”

The voice, velvet soft but also deep, is what makes Steve stop his pity-party and look up at the stage. And, suddenly, he can’t look away.

The vocalist grins brightly at the crowd; open and toothy and just as excited as his own fans.

He’s beautiful. With the wild hair, and the tattoos, and the ripped clothes that shows a lot of skin, and Steve finds himself with butterflies fluttering in his stomach. His face burns, and he knows there’s nothing to do with how ineffective the venue’s AC has been the whole night.

“We're very happy to see you too. Let’s get this party started, yeah?”

Part of the spell is broken once the band starts to play, and Steve finds out that the amazing songs are nothing but more of that unintelligible screaming the opening band was playing before.

But at least the singer is still hot. Steve’s going to count that as a win.
