Link just got finished with an 8 hour surgery and exhaustion is taking him over, he makes his way to the nearest on Call Room hoping to find it empty but instead finds Lucas.
They both just stare at each other in an awkward silence before Link breaks it by asking
‘Lucas are you living in the on call room?’
As he had been seemingly packing his life belongings, which wasn’t much, into a green duffle bag.
Lucas just stands there with a hint of embarrassment and a look on his face as if he had just been caught committing the devious of crimes until eventually he manages to utter out ‘only temporarily’
Link’s face shifts from confusion to concern seeing as Lucas was Amelia’s nephew which made them somewhat related. He knows the right thing to do and what Amelia would want is to tell Lucas to live with them and scout.
‘Lucas you can’t be living in the on call room, why don’t you come live with Amelia scout and I, you’re going to need a good place to rest and to eat if you’re going to survive intern year?!’
Lucas wants to say yes but he made it clear to himself and to his family that he doesn’t want any special favours, he doesn’t want his fellow interns thinking he made it because of nepotism.
‘I told aunt Amy no special favours or handouts I need to do it on my own don’t worry about me. I’ve got vending machine food and the cafeteria coffee to keep me going.’
‘Ok well you’re going to need to do laundry at some point?’
‘Are you and aunt Amy offering to wash my underwear?’ Lucas utters with a grin plastered on his face
Link tries his best to convince Lucas to stay with them but is met with rejection. Until link remembers who Lucas mom is and knows very well Lucas wouldn’t want her finding out he’s living in an on call room so he uses that to his advantage.
‘Alright then guess I’m just going to have to call Nancy then and let her know what’s happening then I guess.’
Lucas face drops and all the scenarios of what could happen if she finds out play through his head, none of which and favourable to him, so he has no choice but to give in.
‘Ok wait don’t call her!!’ Relief ensues Lucas as he sees link put his phone back into his pocket then says ‘I’ll come live with you guys then.’
‘Alright then I’ll let Amelia knows and when my shift ends in a couple hours we can go back together.’
Lucas sheepishly nods and he’s kinda glad he’ll get to see his cousin scout more often and his aunt Amy someone he rarely saw during his childhood so he’s glad he’ll get to spend more time with her.
‘I need to sleep so go be a doctor and give me the room.’ With that Lucas exists the room letting link drop Amelia a text letting her know what’s happening and finally give in to his tiredness.
