WordGirl Oneshots Collection

Summary:

Felt left out after scouring works on this fandom, so I'm writing my own.

Will update tags as they apply.

Notes:

Hey Audience, Writer Here. First foray back into writing fanfic, and new community! Thanks to Athena P’s and Noah Boulter’s lovely works of Lore and Power scaling I've been absolutely obsessed with this series - one I've not seen on TV in ages. Rather than attempt to plot out a long form work and publish nothing, I'm going to write out a series of ideas that haven't left my head. Here we go!

Chapter 1: Corporate Cash-grab

Chapter Text

Scene Transition

Becky Botsford, known by her alter-ego “World Girl” is sitting down in her apartment, watching television. The 23 year old woman is dressed in a pair of Lexicon themed pajamas, her face scrunched in annoyance. Sitting next to her is formerly evil genius and long-time boyfriend Tobey McCallister, clothed in robot themed pajamas.

She sighs, “Can you believe this?” She gestures to the television. “They've completely ruined the Princess Triana characters this season.” A notebook and pen laid on the coffee table, full of annotations.

Tobey shook his head in amusement. “It’s been over a decade since the rights were acquired by Bisney, and being the corporation that did this to other children's television series, are you really surprised they did this to an adaptation of Princess Triana?”

“I knew the likelihood of a faithful adaptation was going to be low, but I had hoped they wouldn't completely render the whole plot into a barely recognized mockery!” Becky was gripping a cushion in a vice.

“And yet you wanted to watch it anyway,” Tobey gave a teasing lit to his voice. Becky tossed the cushion straight into his face.

“You could have not let me raise my hopes this much,” she grouched. He set the cushion aside, fixing his square framed glasses before turning fully towards the dark-skinned heroine.

“Up-up-up. I didn't say anything about this series before we started watching.” He pointed out. “But it was obvious to me how this was going to go.”

“You let me stew in my hopes for a week before the series premiere, despite knowing how much I was anticipating this? How could you?” She huffs and sinks backwards into the couch in feigned anger, though a small grin could be found at the corner of her lips. Tobey, leaning closer, widens his grin.

“And miss the slowly dawning horror over this corporate cash-grab?” He chuckled. “Why my dear, I just had to savor the moment it finally appeared.” He lowers his voice. “After all, it's so very rare to get something over the ‘Amazing World Girl’.

Eyes narrowing, Becky replies. “138 for me, 30 for you. You've got a ways to go to get up to my level.” She smirks.

Tobey’s smile slowly fades as Becky reminds him of their ‘score’. “One more is still better than zero.” He sits back, adopting a regal posture for a moment before they both start laughing, holding onto each other to avoid falling off the couch.

Becky continues after the two of them have calmed down, picking up the notebook. “How much of the plot was utterly whisked into oblivion?”

“I would think it's somewhere between 28 and 32 percent based on this episode alone.”

Becky taps the mechanical pencil against her chin in thought.

Tobey grabs the remote and leans into her, smiling. “Time to rewind?”

“Please, we only got halfway through before I couldn't stand the egregious aberrations to the plot.” Becky bemoans.

The two settled in, raking a fine comb over the very much mid adaptation of a popular genre for the rest of the evening.
