Bugs And Potions

Summary:

Takanori finds something unpleasant in the flowers Akira gave him. And what's with that perfume?

Work Text:

At a flower shop in the heart of the city, an older woman appeared next to a certain blond man. For the first five seconds, she watched him look around like a lost puppy. Then she smiled. "Can I help you somehow, young man?"

Akira nearly jumped at the sudden sound but smiled back at her with a slightly embarrassed expression. "Uh, yes please. I'm looking for some flowers for my boyfriend... What's your most beautiful bouquet?"

The nice lady seemed thoughtful for a moment. She started walking further into the shop and gestured for Akira to follow. "Tell me more about him. What is he like?"

Akira wasn't sure how to describe Takanori. That man was an unique being in a way that was hard to put into words. "He's, uh... elegant?"

Akira watched the florist look around for a moment, rub her chin and then... "These are perfect. Camellias, sweet but elegant. Would your boyfriend like these?" She showed him the flowers; a big bouquet of pale yellow petals and fresh, green leaves. Akira instantly knew that was the one. Perfect for their anniversary.

Akira stopped by Takanori's favorite perfume shop next. He felt like he'd have an easier time choosing a fragrance his boyfriend would like rather than a bouquet, but it wasn't the easiest task either.

He felt like there was no scent that was good enough. He looked for a long time but wasn't satisfied...

Something caught his attention. A girl walked past him and she smelled amazing. He needed that one! "Uh, miss?"

The woman looked at Akira like he was some sort of weirdo. He didn't mind. He just needed to know something. "What perfume do you use?"

She smiled a little. "Oh? It's from here, actually."

"Yeah? Would you mind showing me which one?"

The woman took Akira to a shelf of perfumes and handed him the exact bottle. She excused herself and walked away. He thanked her with a silly grin on his face.

When Akira had the perfume in his hands, he was delighted. It smelled almost too good; the scent was floral and sexy with a mild touch of something sweet. Just the thought of his Taka wearing it made Akira 's heart beat a bit faster.

When Akira got back home, his boyfriend was in his silky, black pajamas. Taka had clearly just woken up, and the time matched his routine, too; it was midday. He rubbed his eyes and squinted at Akira.

"You've been somewhere already?"

Akira made sure to keep the flowers behind his back and not let his boyfriend see anything. "Yeah. Just... running some errands."

"What errands?" Takanori looked suspicious. "What do you have there?" He tilted his head, took a small step to the side which he thought was subtle, then tried to look behind Akira's back. The taller man adjusted his position in a way that he still couldn't see.

Akira smiled at Takanori's curiosity. "Well, as you know, you're very important to me. Today marks the day we've been together for five years. I love you so much, Taka, and I wanted-"

"Do you have something for me or are you going to talk for the next hour or so?"

Akira frowned playfully but he'd already given up. "Fine. I got you something."

Takanori watched his boyfriend fumble with whatever loud plastic packaging he was holding behind his back. When he saw the flowers, he gasped. "Oh my god, Akira! So beautiful!"

"You never say that to me," Akira muttered as he handed the bouquet of yellow camellias to the smaller man. Taka basically jumped into his arms and the flowers were in risk of getting squished.

"Hey, carefulll-"

"So thoughtful from Akira-kun." Takanori gave him a few small kisses all over his face.

"Wait, Taka. There's more!"

Takanori let go of his boyfriend and looked at him curiously. Akira grinned. "Look into the bouquet."

So he looked... What was that? A glass bottle? Yes, perfume. Takanori wanted to try it, so he tried to get it open. But then suddenly he screamed, and the flowers were thrown far away from him.

Akira was caught off guard. He looked down and saw what Taka had seen; a cockroach, kind of a huge one. Did that come from the flowers? No wonder he'd screamed!

Akira's reflexes were quick as he picked up his boyfriend and carried him to the couch. When Takanori was safe from the dangers of such a scary invertebrate, Akira ran to the kitchen first and then back to the hall.

Taka watched from the couch as the other man slammed a bowl on top of the bug, trapping it under. "Aren't you going to kill it?"

"What? No, I'm letting it outside. Poor baby doesn't deserve such a fate for simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time..."

What the hell? Taka couldn't believe his ears. Since when had his boyfriend been friendly to cockroaches? He just stared at Akira, who now transported the bug safely outside. He was even talking to it like it was a cute dog!

When Akira was done, he walked calmly towards Taka and sat down next to him. "Why are you sulking?"

"That is the last bouquet I'm ever accepting from you."

Akira wrapped his arms around Takanori's midriff and pushed him down playfully. Now on top of him, the taller giggled. "I didn't know there would be a bug in there! Will you at least wear the perfume?"

Taka huffed in annoyance. "Maybe. I won't know what it smells like if you don't get off me and let me try it, goddamn."

Akira made a little "oh" and slowly sat up. Like a normal person. He watched Takanori inspect the bottle and glance at him suspiciously from time to time.

"Are you sure you got this with me in mind?" he asked, then read out loud from the label: "Crafted with the finest essences, our sensual perfumes blend delicate blooms and fruity notes... Really? Fruity? Is this supposed to be funny, or why are you laughing?"

"No, it's really good! Try it." He leaned closer to his boyfriend and put his arm around his shoulder. "You'll love it."

Taka wasn't so sure. He had a feeling this perfume was chosen because Akira liked it, not because it would suit him. But he could try it, just to please his lover.

Akira was so excited. He waited impatiently while Taka turned the bottle over in his hands, looked at it, contemplated... Opened it and sprayed a small amount on the back of his hand, smelled it, slowly nodding... or was he doing that just to annoy him?

When Taka said it wasn't "that bad" and finally put it on like normal, Akira was so happy. He was glad that his boyfriend liked the gift, or at least part of it... More than that, though, he was absolutely delighted because his Takanori smelled so amazing.

Akira shoved his face into the other's neck like a curious puppy and inhaled through his nose. The scent was too good. "Oh, fuck it. Come here..."

Taka found it slightly hard to breathe when Akira squeezed him so hard. Should he have been more careful with the amount of perfume he sprayed on himself? Akira seemed to like it a bit too much. The man's hands were caressing his hips in a way he only does when he wants something. Taka wondered if instead of a perfume, it was a love potion. But wait, wasn't his boyfriend supposed to love him already?

Akira was occupied with his lips on Takanori's neck when the smaller suddenly stood up.

"Wait, where are you going?"

"Nice try. Do that again when you don't need a perfume in order to want me!"

"What?" Akira was stunned. Did the other seriously think he didn't want him? "Oi, Taka-chan. I want you all the time, it has nothing to do with the smell," he said, a pout on his face but feeling a little amused. "You didn't have any perfume on you last night, did you?"

Taka cleared his throat and tried to keep his face from reddening. Akira was right. Maybe it wasn't a love potion after all.
