Letter from Gale
A note written on a quality parchment, with a bit of tressym fur caught in the ink.
Dear Arabella,
I hope you are doing well.
Since we parted ways, I have often thought about your fate and whether you were doing alright by yourself. Studying one’s magic, as beautiful and an exciting endeavour as it is, can sometimes lead its student to a lonely path.
It has, however, come to my attention Elminster has taken you under his wing, showing you the wonders and ropes of our craft. I can only hope you will learn everything you need and more from him. If you are interested, I have a couple of tips and tricks on how to entertain the old man in case you need him distracted from a miswritten rune or a portal you were not meant to create.
(It is mostly cheese, especially the Waterdhavian kind – sharp and at least five years in the making.)
Nonetheless, this letter is dedicated to a different matter, entirely.
Recently, Tav has found a splinter of a locket in her belongings, gifted to her by your parents. It has unfortunately been destroyed, for no small amount of fault on my part. Fortunately, even the part of it has been enough.
In this envelope, you will find the replica of the original.
It is crafted upon the base of the former locket, repaired by a jeweller in Waterdeep, based on our memory of its appearance before its regrettable destruction. I hope you forgive if the engravings on the side differ – none of us were exactly certain of the correct pattern.
I have taken it upon myself to craft a spell tied within the necklace anew. (If you are ever interested in the study of enchantment, I could recommend a couple of books. They are suitable for all types of mages.)
It should have the same properties it used to – I believe you are familiar with the cantrip.
I will not pretend to know the weight of the loss you have experienced, and I am grateful that we can return at least a remnant of them to you. I do hope you forgive me when I say that your presence at our camp was one that we remember quite fondly, despite the circumstances that lead to it. I had never met such an enthusiastic and fierce debater.
That said, I wish you every happiness in whatever endeavour you decide to pursue.
Should you ever find yourself in Waterdeep, know that our door is always opened to you.
Best,
Gale Dekarios
Komira’s Locket, Repaired
Worked carefully into the locket's metal back are the words, 'Never dark again.'
Holding it feels as if warm hands touched your shoulders, offering comfort and guidance.
