Work Text:

“You know what I love about you?” Rayla asked, her bright eyes meeting Callum’s.
“Uhm,” Callum responded, flustered.
“Everything.” She responded, placing her hand on Callum’s chest, her eyes meeting his.
Next thing you know, their lips collided, tongues meeting, gently touching eachother, while Rayla dug her hands in that soft, greasy—but still soft, hair, as his hands wrapped around the curve of her waist, tightening as they deepened the kiss. It felt peaceful. Nothing to worry about, no evil being haunting their every move, just..love.
A bit later, Rayla broke the kiss, so they could catch a breath, and before they could lock eyes, Callum enveloped her into a hug, resting his head on her shoulder.
“I love you too Ray.”

They ended up taking a walk instead of sleeping, neither wanting to leave their quiet haven.
Eventually, they sat down on the plush grass, enjoying the cold night air.
“So, what now?”
“What do you mean, What now? What kind of question is that?” Rayla responded, letting out a small chuckle.
“Well, let’s see. Aaravos isn’t coming for a good long time, we don’t have to worry, what do we do now?”
“Let time flow. Don’t bother with all the future. What do you want NOW?” Rayla responded, wrapping her arms around Callum’s shoulders, resting her head on her shoulder.
“To be with you.”
“Me too, love.”
They sat together, curled up in each other’s arms, until Rayla’s breathing got a little bit heavier.
She was asleep.
She fell asleep on him, and it was adorable.
He watched her for a bit, her chest rising and falling on him, until he realised it was getting late, and they didn’t want to wake up in grass.
“Raaylaaaa.”
No response.
“Wakey wakey”
Still no response.
He nudged her.
So, of all things, he resorted to tickling her.
His hands reached for her shoulder, fingers moving in all sorts of directions.
“AH-WHAT THE HELL?” Rayla shouted, her hands instinctively reaching for her back, where her blades usually are. Realising she was safe, she gently rubbed her nose before looking at Callum.
“What was that for?!” Rayla asked, brushing hair from Callum’s face.
“You fell asleep. We should get going.”
“Oh. Right. Out of all the things you could choose to so, all the ways to wake me up, you chose that.”
Rayla gently pecked his lips, and they stood up.

***

Callum was about to walk to his room, after taking Rayla to hers, until he felt a tug at his hand.
“Stay” She said, with a smile.
He returned the smile and got in their room, and climbed into her bed.
Callum was falling asleep, until he felt wiggling hands on his neck.
And he let out a loud shriek.
Rayla quickly covered his mouth with her hand before anyone would wake up.
“Well deserved” Callum sighed.
“Come here, my dumb mage” Rayla said in response.
They wrapped their arms around each other, and Rayla sighed contentedly as buried her face in the side of his neck.
Callum was ruffling her hair, undoing her little braids.
“Did anyone ever tell you that you have the prettiest hair?” Callum asked, resting his chin on her head.
“Not until you showed up”
He smiled and pressed a kiss to her hair, his hands moving up and across her back.
Soon enough, Rayla was fast asleep, her soft breaths against his neck.
They didn’t wake up until 11AM the next day, not that anyone else did, everyone was tired. In fact, Soren didn’t wake up until Corvus dragged him out at 2PM to have breakfast.
But they were free.
For seven years, at least.
