Chapter 1: Annoying

Chapter Text

Nick and Luke had been friends for years before whatever predicament they were in now, but they admittedly were having a fallout.

Nick had told Luke to fuck off one night and since then, they’ve bickered daily. Clem, who was usually paired with them albeit with some fight from Kenny, was tired of it.

Clem would talk, trying to bring to life any kind of conversation and be met with the most unbearable silence of her entire life.

This day was no different, but Nick went on a separate path with Carlos for a moment since Carlos needed someone with him. Clem trailed along with Luke.

“What’s been going on with Nick and you?” She finally broke the silence she’s been getting frustrated with for so long.

Luke blinked, slowly turning to her. “What?”

“You guys have been fighting. You guys are close, so I assume it’s nothing big?” Clem tries to not pry too much. She has history with accidentally being too nosey and getting cussed out for it.

“Close,” Luke scoffed, “barely. He acts like he’s too high up to be cared for at all and is just a selfish asshole.”

“Wow. I see you two are in a fight…” Clem can’t help the sarcasm in her voice. How are these two grown men acting like… this?

“Fight? Please. He’s just mad at me for being right…”

Clem shrugs, “why not try giving him some chocolate and apologizing?”

“Chocolate? Nick hates chocolate. He only likes M&M’s, but he always wants water after to wash the after taste away,” Luke explains like it was the most obvious piece of evidence ever.

“Ooo-kay… so like— what are you gonna do?” Clem looked over at him finally.

Luke sighed, “let this pass through. Maybe Nick and I just stop talking. So what?”

“Seems like you care.”

“I don’t.” Luke says quick enough that Clem quiets.

“Luke, if you really don’t care, then why did you insist we take the path that’s right next to Carlos’s path?”

“What?” Luke looked a little thrown off. He didn’t do that. He took the path that’s was a little longer, sure, but nothing’s wrong with that. If Nick were to scream or any kind of loud— oh shit.

“Can you just make up with Nick already? Kenny is getting tired of it and I’m tired of hearing him rant about your guy’s shit.”

“Clem!” Luke couldn’t help the chuckle that escaped him at the curse, “don’t do that around Kenny. He’ll kill me.”

Clem smirked at Luke’s retort, “He will.”

As they walked on, Luke’s mind kept going back to the conversation. How did he not notice taking the path closest to Nick’s? It was instinct, for sure. Luke didn’t like Nick that much, just felt bad—In fact he hated Nick. Yeah, hated him. Hate was a strong word, but it fits.

Nick was hot headed, stupid when he gets scared, irrational. He always needs some help getting his head straight, but he never is purposely cruel… ignorant. Horrible. He doesn’t listen to anyone, only to Luke which is stupid… Nick shouldn’t depend on Luke.

Yeah. It was annoying. Not likable.
