“What’s the matter, Yabuki?” Gondou walked towards the table, reaching for his glass of whiskey. He took a sip of his drink, enjoying the moment. “Come dance with me. Have some fun tonight, it’s for your training after all.” Joe frowned a bit. “Sure… just give me a moment, Gondou-san.”
When Joe asked Gondou for help in sparring lessons, Joe had in his mind a certain expectation of his yakuza friend. He thought Gondou would come in to Tange Gym with some fellow Yakuza goons to teach him some real street smarts.
What happened instead was Gondou bursting to the gym’s doorstep with two tickets to a jazz night event. That was not the only thing that surprised Joe that night as he recognized faces from the band playing on stage. He walked towards the stage to take a closer look, and there was Guerilla playing bass guitar, while Gaikotsu was tap dancing.
“All right everyone… thank you for being here tonight. We’ll take a quick break, then play some of Louis Armstrong’s classics.” As Guerilla finished speaking the announcement on the microphone, his eyes met with that of Yabuki’s.
Joe smiled. “Guerilla, been a while, huh?” Guerilla softly laughed. “Joe!” Gaikotsu turned his head to take a look as he heard that name being called. “My… if it isn’t good old Yabuki.” Joe took a good look at Gaikotsu. “Oh, Gaikotsu, haven’t seen you since juvie. You idiot… never told me you can dance that well.”
Gaikotsu giggled. “Well, I only started learning a year ago. Just something fun to do, and to earn some extra pocket change here and there.” Guerilla continued. “Yeah, Joe… We both have been playing these short gigs at bars and such, just… trying to figure things out you know.”
Joe’s gaze started to wander across the room. “I see. Well, that was a great performance you both.” Guerilla had a content look. “Glad that you liked it…” Gaikotsu butted in. “It is my utmost honor, Yabuki, to have graced your night with such a beautiful dance.” Joe softly laughed. “Knock it off, Gaikotsu. Don’t let it get to your head, you idiot.”
Guerilla giggled as the light banter between Joe and Gaikotsu reminded him of their times at juvie. He looked behind Joe, and noticed someone peculiar just entered into the room. “Miss Yoko…?”
