Chapter Text
The Seoul skyline shimmered under the neon glow of a thousand signs, each one flickering like a heartbeat in the night. The city never truly slept, and neither did its protectors.
Mira stood on the rooftop of a high-rise, her silhouette outlined by the moonlight. The wind tugged at her jacket, but she didn’t flinch. Her eyes were fixed on the alley below, where a low-level demon had just been exorcised by Rumi and Zoey. The fight had been quick, efficient. Too easy.
“Another one down,” Zoey called up, brushing ash from her jacket. “That’s the third this week. You’d think they’d learn.”
Rumi let her sword dissipate into the Honmoon, glancing up at Mira. “You coming down, or are you just going to brood up there all night?”
Mira didn’t answer. She turned away from the edge and disappeared into the shadows.
---
Back at HQ, the mood was lighter. Zoey had commandeered the common room TV, flipping through music channels until she landed on a live performance.
“Oh my god, it’s her!” Zoey squealed, practically bouncing on the couch. “Victoria! She’s performing in Melbourne again!” On the screen on stage stood a tall blonde woman, clearly muscular, holding a guitar belting out some intense song.
Rumi raised an eyebrow. “The rock chick you’re obsessed with?”
“She’s not just a rock chick,” Zoey said, eyes glued to the screen. “She’s a goddess. That voice? That stage presence? The muscles? Ugh, I’d sell my soul to see her live.”
Mira froze in the doorway. Her fingers clenched around the edge of the doorframe. On the screen, Victoria stood center stage, her black leather jacket glinting under the lights, her voice raw and electric. The crowd roared as she belted out the chorus, her eyes fierce, her presence magnetic.
Mira’s heart thudded painfully. She hadn’t seen Victoria in months. Not since—
“You okay?” Rumi’s voice cut through the haze.
Mira blinked. “Yeah. Just tired.”
Zoey didn’t notice. “I swear, if she ever comes to Seoul, I’m camping out for tickets. I’d kill to meet her.”
Mira’s lips twitched into a tight smile. “Careful what you wish for.” And with that Mira left for her room
Rumi looked to Zoey they both shrugged.
---
Later that night, Mira sat alone in her room, the glow of her phone screen illuminating her face. A message blinked at the top.
Victoria: He’s back. I saw him. I think he knows about me.
Mira’s breath caught. She stared at the message, rereading it over and over. Her thumb hovered over the reply button, but she couldn’t bring herself to type.
Instead, she opened her photo gallery. There they were — snapshots of a life no one else knew about. A beach in Byron Bay. A blurry selfie of her and Victoria, laughing, wind in their hair. A quiet wedding ceremony under a eucalyptus tree, just the two of them and a celebrant who thought they were just another couple in love.
Because they were. They are.
But Mira had kept it hidden. From the team. From the world. From herself. She tapped out a reply.
Mira: Don’t do anything reckless, just keep preforming.
She hesitated, then added:
I miss you.
---
The next morning, Rumi cornered her in the training room.
“You’ve been off,” Rumi said, arms crossed. “You’re not sleeping. You’re distracted. What’s going on?”
Mira deflected with a shrug. “Just tired.”
“You’re lying.”
Mira met her gaze. “Drop it, Rumi.”
Rumi sighed "Ok then, let's spar."
They each summon their weapons and step into the middle of the room, staring at each other.
Zoey blows the whistle and they start fight light swipes at the side of some ones torso, kicks that will leave bruises and punches that could break noses, this wasn't sparring this was a proper fight, it keeps going until finally Rumi gains the upper hand and manages to pin Mira to the wall with her sword, meanwhile Mira's Gok Do was strewn across the room.
"Ok! Ok! you got me, congrats you win." Mira pushes Rumi off her and rubs her neck walking to the corner of the room to grab her water bottle.
---
But Rumi didn’t stop pestering Mira. And Zoey, still gushing about Victoria, didn’t notice the way Mira flinched every time her name came up.
Secrets were piling up like storm clouds. And somewhere across the ocean, Victoria — Mira’s wife, her secret, her heart — was facing a danger Mira had hoped would never resurface.
The past wasn’t done with them.
And neither were the demons.
