Work Text:
The late afternoon sun spilled through the lace curtains, filling the bedroom with soft golden warmth. Bonggu was propped against the headboard, his hair a little messy, his cheeks still pale but glowing in a way only he could after everything he’d been through. Wrapped snugly in his arms were their newborn twins—Yeseo, their tiny daughter, and Yeowoon, their little boy.
Yejun lingered at the doorway, as if afraid that blinking would make the sight disappear. His chest swelled with pride, awe, and a tenderness so overwhelming it almost ached. Bonggu looked up at him and chuckled softly.
“You’re staring again,” he murmured, amusement dancing in his eyes.
“I can’t help it,” Yejun replied as he moved closer, his voice hushed like the moment deserved. He bent down, brushing a kiss across Bonggu’s damp forehead, then leaned lower to kiss each tiny baby forehead. “They’re so small. And you… you’re incredible.”
Bonggu let out a tired laugh, leaning against Yejun’s shoulder. “Incredible and exhausted.”
Yejun smiled, sliding an arm carefully around him, careful not to disturb the sleeping babies. “Then let me carry that exhaustion with you. We’ll figure this out together.”
The days blurred in a haze of feedings, lullabies, and the occasional cries that pulled them both awake at night. More often than not, Yejun was the one to get up first. He would pace gently with Yeowoon in his arms, humming soft tunes until the baby settled, his strong alpha presence grounding the little one. Bonggu would watch through heavy lids, his heart swelling as he saw a side of Yejun only he knew—gentle, patient, endlessly devoted.
One night, as Yejun rocked Yeowoon by the window, Bonggu whispered sleepily, “Do you ever get scared?”
Yejun’s gaze softened as he looked at him. “All the time. But then I remember… we’re not alone. I have you. We have them. That’s all I need.”
Bonggu reached for his hand, squeezing it tightly. “Our family,” he echoed, tears glistening in his tired eyes.
Weeks passed, and laughter slowly filled their home—not just theirs, but the babies’ too. One morning, Yeseo let out her first clear giggle as Yejun made silly faces at her. He froze, eyes wide like he’d just found treasure.
“She laughed,” he whispered, completely awestruck. “Did you hear that? She actually laughed.”
Bonggu laughed too, sitting cross-legged on the floor with Yeowoon on his lap. “She must find you funny.”
“Or maybe she already loves me best,” Yejun teased, carefully setting Yeseo beside her brother. The twins stared at each other, eyes wide, and Yeowoon cooed happily in response.
“They’re already talking to each other,” Bonggu said in wonder, his smile soft and full.
Yejun leaned closer, wrapping an arm around Bonggu’s shoulders and pulling him gently against his chest. “One day, they’ll be running around this house, driving us crazy. But until then…” He pressed a kiss to Bonggu’s temple. “I just want to hold on to this moment.”
The warmth of their little world grew even brighter the day their friends came to visit.
The front door opened with a bang, and Eunho’s voice rang out first:
“Where are the babies?! Show me my niece and nephew!”
“Yah, Eunho, lower your voice,” Noah snapped, smacking his shoulder before adding with a smirk, “Honestly, you sound like you’re storming a castle, not visiting newborns.”
“You’re just jealous because I got excited first,” Eunho shot back, already kicking off his shoes with all the subtlety of a thunderstorm.
Behind them, Hamin entered quietly, carrying neatly wrapped boxes of gifts. “Both of you, calm down. You’re going to stress the parents before you even see the kids.”
Bonggu, sitting on the couch with Yeseo nestled in his arms, burst out laughing. “You three haven’t changed at all.”
Yejun appeared from the nursery with Yeowoon in his arms. He immediately shot Eunho and Noah a warning look. “Hands washed. Quiet voices. No arguments in front of the babies.”
“Yes, sir,” Noah muttered, rolling his eyes dramatically, though he obediently headed to the sink. Eunho followed, complaining the whole way about how he was quiet compared to Noah.
By the time they returned, Hamin was already at Bonggu’s side, carefully peeking at Yeseo with an expression of pure wonder. “She looks so peaceful,” he whispered. “She has your eyes, Bonggu.”
“Do I get to hold one now?” Eunho whined, bouncing on his feet.
“No,” Yejun said firmly. “Not with that energy.”
“Aw, come on! I can be gentle!”
“I doubt it,” Noah chimed in, smirking as he leaned against the armrest. “You’d probably drop him the second he spits up.”
“Like you’d do any better!” Eunho retorted, glaring at him.
“Actually, I would,” Noah said smoothly, holding out his arms expectantly. “Hand him over, Yejun. I’m the most responsible here.”
“Responsible?” Hamin muttered under his breath. “That’ll be the day.”
Bonggu laughed so hard he had to clutch Yeseo closer to keep from shaking her. Eventually, Yejun sighed and handed Yeowoon to Hamin instead, ignoring the protests of the other two. Hamin held the baby with calm steadiness, his entire expression softening.
“Hi, little one~” Hamin murmured, rocking gently. “I’m your uncle Hamin. Don’t worry, I’ll keep those two from causing trouble around you.”
“Rude!” Noah muttered, crossing his arms.
“True” Bonggu teased, earning a groan from both Noah and Eunho.
Soon enough, though, Noah managed to charm Yejun into letting him hold Yeseo—only after washing his hands again and being lectured twice. Eunho ended up squatting beside him, making silly faces to try and coax a smile from the baby.
The living room quickly filled with laughter, teasing, and the clinking of dishes as they shared food together. The twins slept peacefully through most of it, their little world surrounded not only by the warmth of their parents, but also by the chaotic, loving presence of friends who felt like family.
Later that night, after everyone left and the house returned to stillness, Bonggu leaned against Yejun by the window. The twins slept close by, their soft breaths a lullaby of their own.
“Tired?” Yejun asked gently, his chin resting on Bonggu’s shoulder.
“A little,” Bonggu admitted, smiling. “But happy. Really happy.”
Yejun kissed his neck softly. “Me too. Every moment, I fall more in love with you. With them. With this life.”
Bonggu turned, leaning fully into Yejun’s embrace. The world outside could wait; here, in his arms, was everything he had ever wanted. And as their babies slept soundly, the two of them simply breathed together—hearts steady, love unshaken, wrapped in the warmth of a forever they were building side by side.
— END.
