By your side

Summary:

Following the chaos at Castle Utgard, Ymir and Historia ride together in a transport wagon toward Wall Rose. Ymir, badly wounded and barely conscious, leans heavily against Historia as they share a brief, fragile exchange that speaks more than words could.

Notes:

English is not my first language.

So please feel free to correct me if I wrote something wrong.

I’m so sorry if this is too short. I tried to drag it up to 1,000 words, which I couldn’t XD.

I’m currently obsessed with this ship, so expect more short one-shots like this. (If an idea pops up, ofc)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Historia’s POV

It was early morning when everything had settled down. Ymir revealed her secret: she was a Titan Shifter.

And I hadn’t even noticed all these years.

Ymir’s revelation also brought mine, just as I promised to her on that Snowy Mountain. The weight of my own revelation, my actual name, felt heavy on my shoulders.

Now, with her secret out, she’s in danger of being kidnapped by someone else, the enemy, just like Eren.

Or at least I think that’s why she kept the secret so long, because she was afraid.

I am at risk too; I don’t know what the Cult of the Walls is capable of after I revealed my name and last name to the Survey Corps.

But that doesn’t matter if I have Ymir by my side.

I can’t explain it, but when I’m with her, I’m not afraid of anything.

Now her head rests on my lap, still unconscious.

We’re already on the transport wagon heading to Wall Rose.

The sky started to look all gray, as if it were ready to rain. It won’t be long before the drizzle starts.

All I can do now is convince Sergeant Hange that she’s not a threat to humanity.

But right now, I want to hold her and let her know she’s not alone; I’m here for her, no matter what.

As tiny drops start falling from the sky,

I gently caressed Ymir’s freckled face, catching each drop as it fell.

As I continued, I started counting her freckles. My mind was slowly drifting far away from reality.

Tiny constellations scattered across her face

Ymir’s remaining left hand slowly raised to touch my hand that was caressing her, and she intertwined her fingers with mine.

She opened her honey-colored eyes and weakly smiled, her lips trembling.

“Ymir?” She took me by surprise, and tears quickly started falling down my face

“You’ll be fine, okay? I’ll talk to Sergeant Hange as soon as we get to Wall Rose.

Promise me you’ll tell everything you know about the Titans and the enemy.”

Ymir stayed quiet

“Just close your eyes and rest, okay?” I say as I brush her dark brunette hair with my other hand

“No matter what you do, I’ll always be by your side, now and forever.”

I held her hand close to my lips, hovering there, letting my breath warm her skin, as we locked eyes.

Ymir’s eyes began to squint; her lips parted to say something.

“Marry me…” she growled, the words slurred as her eyes fluttered, fighting to stay conscious.

My heart felt like it could burst.

Even hurt, she still had this way of making me feel… everything.

Before I could say something, Sergeant Hange approached.

“We have reached Wall Rose. We are going to remove Scout Ymir’s body from the wagon so she can get the medical attention she requires. We need you to wait outside the wagon until we bring her up the Wall”.

I didn’t want to leave her alone, but Ymir was already out again

So I squeezed her hand as I slowly got off the wagon.

I’ll do everything I can to protect her. So now I can try and talk to Sergeant Hange and later Commander Erwin; she’s on

humanity’s side, and if she’s not, I am willing to go to hell with her. If that means I’ll stay by her side.

Notes:

Ymir’s such a drama queen XDDD
