Don't Disappear Completely

Summary:

Nam-gyu, the private, quietly grumpy worker at Club Pentagon, spends his post-shift nights scrolling KoreanCupid while Ji-woo clowns him for “finally acting human.” He never expects to actually care about anyone on the app—until he matches with a guy named Choi Su-bong, whose easy humor and soft confidence pull him in fast. Their late-night messages become addictive, familiar, and way too real. But when something forces the two to meet in person, Nam-gyu discovers the truth: Su-bong is actually Thanos, a rising idol hiding behind his pre-debut name. The reveal shatters everything they built, and suddenly their story tangles with unexpected appearances from

Namgyu and Thanos start dating online without knowing the other’s real identity, Thanos is using his pre-idol name 'Choi SU-bong'. But when they’re forced to meet in person, Nam-gyu learns that “Choi Su-bong” is actually Thanos, an ex-idol with a drug problem.

Chapter 1: The Beginning of the End

Chapter Text

Nam-gyu was done with work for the night. He sat on one of the bar stools at Club Pentagon. Mostly lesbians and straight men came here. Club Pentagon was a strip club with a fairly sized bar. Nam-gyu was eating left over strawberries that were supposed to be put in those fuckass Strawberry Somaeks (딸기소맥) as Nam-gyu calls them. He hates Somaeks but he loves strawberries. He pulled out his phone and opened KoreanCupid (코리안큐피드) to pass the time. He wasn’t really looking for anyone in particular, just scrolling to pass time.
His co-worker Ji-woo (who is apparently the pretty one) looked up from the bar she while she was making an Bokbunja Makgeolli (복분자 막걸리) for one of the regulars Mr. Kim. Nam-gyu always liked Mr. Kim mostly because they shared the same surname, not like anyone knew Nam-gyu’s surname. Nam-gyu never told anyone his last name or any other information except maybe his phone number or email if you needed to contact him. Nam-gyu always said the same thing when people asked for his last name and other information, “The only thing you need to know about me is my name.” Not even Hwan-yu, his boss knew his surname. Namgyu was glad Hwan-yu didn't ask many questions. If he did, he probably wouldn't have gotten the job which he needs; he can’t afford to get fired out of the blue.

“Whatcha’ doing, Gyu?” Ji-woo turned towards him asking while pouring the Makgeolli into the glass.

“Don’t call me that.” Nam-gyu snapped at her while still scrolling.

“You call me Ji, if ya’ want.” Ji-woo offered holding out the makgeolli shaker (막걸리 셰이커) as a joke. Not like he would accept either.

“Fuck, no but, to answer your question im on KoreanCupid.”

“Awe little Nammie is looking for love.” Ji-woo mocked him.

“First off don’t call me ‘Nammie’ and second just looking for some fun not like you would know what fun is.” Nam-gyu snickered at that.

“At least I have a girlfriend.” She was mocking him for being single even though he was still 27.

“Im gay , remember? You threw me a coming out party.” Nam-gyu told her holding a strawberry with his hand tilted outwards towards her.

“Oh yeah. I did do that.” Ji-woo made a little sound of understanding.
Nam-gyu never understood why Ji-woo and most girls he’s met make some type of noise to signal emotion.
“Why can’t you say ‘Okay’ like a normal person?” Namgyu asked her, slightly annoyed.

“Whatever aegiya, I-” Nam-gyu cuts himself off.

He found a profile that peaked his interest.
The name was Choi Su-bong. He looked normal. His hair was black, his hoodie was simple, and he had a small smile. The bio said, “Used to be cooler than I am now. Trying to figure out life. Don’t ask about work unless you want a long story.” Nam-gyu chuckled. It made him curious. He swiped right.

“What’cha smiling ‘bout?” Ji-woo asked, walking over and leaning on the counter next to Nam-gyu but on the bar side.

“Just found someone.” Nam-gyu answered with a slight smirk.
“Since when did you like romance? I’ve known you for six years and not once have you been interested in dating.” Ji-woo explained holding up her finger in a matter of fact way.
“Things change. I'm not the same person I was six years ago. You know.”

It’s a match!
