The Journey That Almost Didn't Begin

Summary:

To think, their journey was nearly over before it even truly began when they stepped foot in Loguetown...

Based on the drabble prompt "grudge".

Set During Episode 52: "Buggy's Revenge! The Man Who Smiles On the Execution Platform!"

Notes:

These canon characters belong to Eiichiro Oda and the Funimation English Dub series. I just want it to be known that I watch the show in the English dub, so those are the voices I imagine for the characters. Also, this story can work with the live-action cast as well if you’d prefer to imagine them as well. This particular fic is set during Episode 52: "Buggy's Revenge! The Man Who Smiles On the Execution Platform!" of the Loguetown Arc.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

The small crew of four stands, various expressions of shock and disappointment etched across each of their faces.

Thunder crashes loudly throughout the port town as lightning dances between the clouds, a storm brewing just as Nami predicted.

Despite only having been together a short time after leaving Arlong Park, the crew has already come to realize their Captain has the overwhelming tendency to find trouble wherever he goes.

They watch in abject horror as Luffy kneels on the same platform where the former King of the Pirates was executed over two decades ago, that idiotic grin still plastered on his face.

“I’m the man who’ll be King of the Pirates!”

The Devil Fruit user with the straw hat shouts his proclamation, thunder punctuating his ambitious words.

“Stop the execution now!” Zoro and Sanji shout, rushing the platform with fire burning in both their eyes.

“Zoro! Sanji! Usopp! NamI! Sorry, but I’m dead!” Luffy’s voice cries over the howl of the wind.

To think, their journey would be over before it even truly begins due to a flashy, annoying clown with a grudge and an overinflated ego.

The first mate and cook vow to stop the attempted execution in time.

Notes:

There was a thunderstorm occurring when I wrote this, much like the one in this episode, so I definitely had to take advantage of the inspiration that struck with the weather. I hope you will read and enjoy the rest of my One Piece stories if you enjoyed this piece. If you enjoyed this little drabble, I’d love a like, kudos, or comment to tell me what you enjoyed and what you'd like to see next. Until next time, dear readers! Have a wonderful day, afternoon, or night!
