Work Text:
Five years passed since AHOF rose to the top, and the group still stood strong. They performed together when they could, but each member also explored their own colors now. Solo stages, individual albums, and personal dreams.
Tonight was proof of that growth.
JL stood at the center of the Philippine Arena, facing tens of thousands of lightsticks glowing in shades that belonged only to him. This was the final stop of his very first solo world tour, and he chose the Philippines as the closing chapter.
He wanted to keep reminding himself that his country will always feel warm, like hands that always pulled him back to the ground no matter how high he climbed.
Everything flowed smoothly from the opening VCR to the mid-show ment. Fans screamed, cried, laughed, and sang with him. JL gave them everything, his voice, his energy, his heart.
But when the screen behind him turned dark blue and the lights softened to match the calm, something in his expression shifted.
His smile stayed on his lips, but it no longer brightened his whole face. It stopped below his eyes, never touching the corners. People sensed it. A wave of concern quietly rippled through the crowd.
JL stepped closer to the center mic as the arena fell into a hush. He gripped the stand lightly, breathing in as if gathering courage that kept escaping him.
Then, with a small exhale, he spoke.
“For my last song, this is a cover that I dedicate to the person I loved… and still love the most for so long.” His voice shook, just enough for everyone to feel it. “But I’m r-ready now to let… to let go.”
The silence that followed stretched long and heavy. It carried the weight of five years of rumors, secrets, and unspoken stories. Every fan inside the arena froze for a moment, unsure if they heard him right. Then the shock rolled through the crowd like a sudden storm.
“Wait, what did he just say?”
“Did he say he still loves someone?”
“No, no, stop, I’m shaking—WHO?”
“Is the person here?!”
“Someone hold me, I can’t breathe.”
“REAL TEA? ON THE LAST STOP? JL, PLEASE.”
“I knew it. I swear I knew he was longing for someone!”
“He looks like he’s about to cry.”
“Everyone stay calm… actually no, don’t stay calm!”
Before the arena could fully recover, the gentle instrumental intro began to play, a soft, dreamy melody that made the moment feel even more fragile. Lightsticks waved slower now, no longer in excitement but in quiet support.
JL lifted his eyes, and though they shimmered under the lights, tears didn’t fall.
He wasn’t breaking down, he was choosing to be honest.
Maybe for the first time.
“This is Indigo,” he said, voice steadier now. “The song I’m singing for you tonight as a farewell message.”
He didn’t say a name, and he didn’t need to.
The word “you” drew a straight line from his chest to somewhere in the crowd.
Somewhere, someone in that sea of people.
The band eased into the full arrangement, filling the arena with colors of blue and quiet longing.
I never sent the drunk text, my biggest mistake.
'Cause I heard that you fell in love so I guess I'm a little too late.
JL closed his eyes as he began to sing, and his voice carried emotions brushed with clarity, emotions that felt like they came from a long, hidden part of him. A love that stayed too long. Memories that stayed too bright. A goodbye that came late but arrived with pure honesty.
On stage, lights wrapped around him like a soft glow, but all he sensed was the weight in his chest and the trembling in his fingers.
You're a melody, always stuck in my head like a memory that I'll never forget.
He lifted his gaze as the note dissolved into the air, and it traveled straight toward the eyes of one specific person in the crowd.
Cha Woongki.
There were thousands of fans in front of him, cheering, waving lightsticks, calling their names, but everything blurred into a pale haze the moment his eyes locked onto Woongki’s. He didn’t know if the courage that pushed him came from the adrenaline of the stage or from the quiet ache that followed him through the years, but he didn’t look away.
And I'll always remember it goes…
Woongki, still oblivious and shocked, stared at him. His face showed confusion, curiosity, and a rising tremble that he couldn’t hide. He wondered what was going on. He searched JL’s eyes, looking for answers he never expected to find in the middle of a concert.
For the first time, he saw something in JL that he never noticed before, something silently waiting for the right moment to reveal itself.
Then Woongki realized JL was still holding their eye contact. Not for a second did his gaze wander.
I'd spend forever so lost in your eyes.
Float through the indigo for all of time.
Woongki didn’t know why, but JL’s eyes suddenly looked different.
They seemed to hold pain, quiet pain buried under years of smiles, jokes, rehearsals, and shared memories. They held secrets. They held longing. Longing so deep that Woongki felt his breath falter.
He didn't know how to help him. He didn't even know what exactly he needed to help him with. His heart raced, not from the crowd or the noise, but from the strange pull he felt from the stage.
You're the alcohol that I pour in my cup.
You're the radio, you're the song I turn up.
Unknowingly, Woongki couldn’t look away. No matter how confused he was, no matter how overwhelmed he felt, he couldn’t bring himself to break that connection. JL’s voice floated across the arena like a confession disguised as music.
You're the best thing that's ruined my life.
My favourite heartbreak, my lowest of highs.
And I'm still the same, but everything's changed.
A sudden ache crawled into Woongki’s chest. It was slow at first, like something pressing from within, and then it grew so sharp it felt like his heart was about to explode. Every line finally made sense. Every memory that he never bothered to examine before suddenly returned. Old moments, small gestures, quiet glances, times when JL’s silence felt a little heavier than usual. Everything flooded him at once.
He didn’t know why.
He had no clue.
But JL’s eyes were glued to him, and his friend’s voice still sounded so angelic despite the pain inside it. That contrast alone crushed him further.
I'd spend forever so lost in your eyes.
JL smiled.
It was a small smile, honest and warm, but behind it lay a sadness so sharp that even fans noticed. Whispers rose. Gasps scattered in the crowd. Cameras zoomed in, capturing the exact moment his mask of control slipped.
Float through the indigo for all of time.
A tear escaped his eye, then another. Soon his cheeks glistened under the stage lights. He didn’t wipe them away. He didn’t try to hide them. He just let them fall naturally, like they belonged to the moment.
That shade of blue should be some kind of crime.
Every tear slid down while he maintained his gaze on Woongki. As if looking away would break him. As if the final thread between them rested on this moment.
Oh, it's all you, it's all you.
Woongki’s breath froze.
Oh, it's you.
And just like that, Woongki understood.
Everything.
JL ended the song beautifully, softly, painfully, like he poured years of love into three minutes. When the last note faded, silence swallowed the arena. No one dared to speak. No one moved. Even breathing felt too loud.
And Woongki… he didn’t know what to do. His tears slipped down without permission. Betraying him. Exposing him.
He was hurt.
Deeply hurt.
Because now he knew.
He finally understood that JL loved him far more than just a friend. For a long time, longer than he could imagine. And he couldn’t do anything about it now. His heart already belonged to someone else. JL knew it, too.
And still, JL chose to let go.
Fans watched with heavy hearts. They knew they just witnessed a confession that would echo far beyond the tour.
A story told without words, only with a song and a gaze that stretched across the arena.
After the concert, when the lights faded and everybody returned to their designated areas, Woongki’s legs still felt weak. He stayed in the VVIP section since he needed to do the fan benefits.
His heartbeat didn’t settle at all, and his mind didn’t stop replaying the moment.
Time pushed him forward until the five-minute fansigning started.
When his turn came, he walked slowly toward JL’s table. JL already looked composed again. His makeup was retouched, covering the evidence of his tears. He wore new clothes that made him look even more unreal. He smiled gently like nothing happened.
Woongki didn’t know what to say.
JL spoke first.
“Hey,” he greeted, soft and calm.
Woongki didn’t answer. He stared at JL’s face, and his tears rose again without warning.
“Don’t cry, please,” JL whispered.
“Why?” Woongki’s voice cracked.
“Why what?” JL asked even though he already knew.
“Why didn’t you tell me? I know you were singing for me, Yence. Why didn’t you tell me about your feelings?” Woongki tried to stay composed, but his voice trembled.
JL smiled sadly, stood up, and moved to his side. He took out a handkerchief and wiped Woongki’s tears gently before pulling him into a tight hug.
“I’m sorry, hyung. I didn’t have the courage to tell you I'm in love with you. We’re friends, and I was so afraid. If I confessed, either you’d love me back or you’d avoid me. The group might get affected. What if my feelings broke us apart? What if everything we built together fell apart because of me?”
Woongki shook his head, guilt sinking into him. “Still… you were hurting for so long. You listened to every story I told about the people I dated over the years. You must’ve been hurting so much. I didn’t even know.”
“It’s alright, hyung,” JL whispered. “Thank you for being my friend. That way, we never needed to struggle with heartbreak or fear tearing the group apart. Look at us, we’re successful, we’re growing. That’s enough for me. Your friendship is enough for me.”
“Yence…” Woongki’s voice cracked again.
JL pressed a small laugh between them. “Your five minutes is over. The other fans might start complaining.”
Woongki let out a shaky laugh. “Idiot.”
JL smiled wider. “I’m fine, really. I’m ready to let go now. Thank you for all the years of friendship, hyung. I’m sorry you discovered my feelings this way. But trust me, we’ll stay very good friends. I’ll do everything I can so AHOF stays strong.”
“Okay… see you soon, Yence,” Woongki whispered.
“See you,” JL replied, gentle and sincere.
Woongki stepped out of the arena with a heavy yet relieved heart. He never expected to learn something so life-changing tonight. But he was grateful, grateful that JL loved not only him but also the entire group enough to sacrifice his own heart.
Outside, he saw Kairi, his fiance, waiting for him, smiling softly as he approached.
Woongki returned the smile, though the weight inside him still lingered.
He glanced back at the exit gate one last time.
A deep breath left him.
Tonight wasn’t just the final stop of a spectacular world tour…
It was the final stop of an unrequited love finally laid to rest.
