The melancholy of Dr.Goebbels

Work Text:

Dr Goebbels appeared to be in a state of severe depression, at the very least. He wept, and two seconds later his face was expressionless. He seemed unable to handle his emotions well. While he craved affection from others, he wouldn't even let his wife into the room.

"May I come in?" Hitler asked. Goebbels had been longing for it above all else. Therefore, he gave no reply.

Goebbels was sad. Goebbels knew he could not live alone, yet he still wanted to be alone. For two days, not going to work or eating, he was at the very bottom of despair, yet he was happy.

"Doctor," said Hitler.

"Without you, I cannot live. I cannot work. It is you who prolongs my life as Führer."

Even so, Goebbels remained silent.

Hitler, exasperated, ordered him to unlock the door.

"Goebbels, obey my command."

Goebbels remained seated cross-legged in the middle of the room.

"Goebbels"

"Doctor!"

Whatever one said was wasted on Goebbels. He had retreated into a blissful delusion.

Hitler finally resorted to the last resort.

"Joseph, if you open the door for me—"

Goebbels' ears twitched.

"...I shall praise you lavishly."

Goebbels was disheartened. Yet the prospect of praise was sufficiently enticing to him.

Goebbels wiped the tear-stained lids of his eyes and unlocked the door.

Then he awoke.

He was still in the pitch-black room.

He knew Hitler would never come here again.

He was dead. Today, or perhaps already yesterday, he had died.

"For my final dream to end like this,"

Goebbels murmured, lifting the corners of his mouth slightly.

"See you soon,my lover."
