Work Text:

A few weeks passed since the disaster that was their failed takeover. Val had everything under control, and so did Velvette, but today she took a day off because she deserved one. She squandered around the tower when evening came, her braided hair neatly tucked under her bonnet and body wrapped in a soft silky robe she wore before bed. She’d been humming a quiet tune as she stumbled into the dimly lit kitchen.

She continued humming, placing some leftovers from the fridge on the counter, and got her plate ready. Her humming stopped abruptly as a familiar blue glow flickered behind her before it illuminated half the kitchen. She lifted her head, eyes shut tightly, readying herself for whatever absurdity she was about to hear.

“Velvette!” Vox cheered, though his voice was strained. “What have you got there? Food obviously, do you mind sharing? It’s— I miss eating.”

She bit her lip, risking a glance over her shoulder. His head was lying against the window on the side counter, Val probably left him there the last time he’d been here, and Vox probably slept since. She sighed. She’d sworn to herself that she would ignore him, let him simmer in his guilt, but Valentino was always the better one when it came to the stubborn game.

She crossed her arms, spinning to face him as her back hit the counter, he had a small smile. Vox still hadn’t gotten his body back, the regeneration taking longer than expected, but Velvette thought being like this for a while would do him good. “If you’re hungry I can plug a charger in you.”

His screen flickered. “No! I mean, it’s the taste I miss, you know, heh… heh.”

Velvette cocked her eyebrow. “Yeah? Well, deal with it.” She turned back, throwing her plate into the microwave.

“Come on, Velvette, you can’t be pissed at me forever!”

He’d always been a prick, Velvette knew that the moment they met, but she never realised just how upset he could make her. Now he was raising his voice again and she almost felt every non-existent vein in her body burst. She exhaled, pushing out the frustration. You’re not engaging with him until he apologises. She thought, taking the hot plate of food and dropping it on the dining table.

Vox’s eyes followed her movements with a sour expression, but even as she avoided his gaze, she didn’t miss the way his eyes kept flickering away from her. She sat carefully, taking a bite. Was chewing always so difficult? Maybe she should just take it to her room, or just turn Vox around so he’d look at the city instead of her.

That bastard almost wiped out half of the city.

Her fork clattered against the table and Vox’s face went small. “Fuck this! What the actual hell were you thinking?!” She was standing now, pointing at him with all the anger of twitter users.

“Hah… Velvette, what—”

“I knew you could be an idiot at times, Vox, but that was a new low! Even for you!”

“I— Come now, Vel, it was just a mishap.” He laughed awkwardly.

“Mishap? Mishap?” She screeched. “You almost bloody killed all of us! Killed us, permanently! Do you have any idea—” Her eyebrows scrunched together before she let her hand massage her forehead. The one thing she wasn’t going to do was cry.

Vox was silent, apart from the soft buzzing from his screen, and his eyes fell, looking anywhere but her.

“Just… Why? Apart from that fucking performance you pulled, you wanted to what? Self-destruct?” She scoffed. “Seriously, Vox — suicide because you can’t stop sucking up to that red freak? I don’t even know what goes through that plastic head of yours…”

She sighed. “You have us.” Vox lifted his eyes. “I can’t believe I’m saying this… we care about you and your dumbass ideas, but your head is so far up your own ass that you can’t even see it.”

The buzzing was louder.

Velvette picked up her plate and moved towards the elevator. “So until you come to what’s left of your senses and see us for everything we did for you, then yes, I will keep being pissed at you!”

The elevator opened and she stepped in.

Vox’s screen flickered. “Hey! Uh… Can you feed Shock.wav for me?”

The doors were closing.

“Val already did.”
