Oikawa thought his boyfriend loved him.
He thought he missed him.
He thought they'd get to spend plenty of quality time together.
Oikawa was wrong.
Oikawa was on a plane for eighteen hours just to find himself lost in the middle of a field of corn and bugs.
Oikawa stopped walking abruptly and threw his hands in the air once Iwaizumi turned to look at him in confusion."Tell me the truth, Iwa-chan. You've met someone more beautiful and just can't find a way to break up with me, so you dragged me out here to kill me."
Iwaizumi looked even more confused, blinking blankly at Oikawa. "What? Of course not, stupid-kawa. What in the world are you even talking about?"
Oikawa gestured to the corn surrounding them. "They make horror movies like this, Iwa-chan! Two good looking people go into the middle of nowhere, get lost, and zzzt." He mimed something slashing his throat, closing his eyes and sticking his tongue out for full dramatic effect.
"You're being ridiculous," Iwaizumi said, rolling his eyes. Just then, a group of preteens pushed by them, laughing and shouting as they ran down one of the paths leading further into the maze. "See? It's a fun fall activity here. Even kids can do it."
Oikawa sniffed and then pulled a crumpled map out of his pocket. "Go get lost in corn and fight off mud and bugs. Have they never heard of volleyball? Or literally anything else?" Oikawa sighed and took a good look at the map. "We need to go right."
His outburst over, Oikawa took the maze seriously, holding Iwaizumi's hand with an excuse of "We wouldn't want to get lost from each other would we, Iwa-chan?" Iwaizumi sighed half-heartedly, but Oikawa noticed that he didn't attempt to pull away, instead gently rubbing his thumb over his. Oikawa even forgot to pretend to be upset, finding himself enjoying the time with Iwaizumi as they worked together to get through the maze.
"We didn't die!" Oikawa cheered when they exited the maze, throwing their still tangled hands up in triumph, and Iwaizumi even chuckled at his dramatics.
"One more thing and then we can go back to my apartment," Iwaizumi said, leading him away from the maze as Oikawa eyed him suspiciously. "You'll like this!"
Iwaizumi brought them to a field of pumpkins of all different sizes, shapes, and even colors. "We just…pick one?" Oikawa asked him again, looking at the myriad of options.
Iwaizumi nodded, "We'll carve it later."
They inspected multiple pumpkins together. Too big. Too small. Orange a little too Karasuno-like… eventually they settled on what Oikawa declared the most perfect pumpkin in the world.
That evening, Oikawa finally got his quality time alone with Iwaizumi, a jack-o-lantern carved with a heart and the initials T + H flickering in the window.
