Sissel brought the car to a stop in the parking lot. Off to the side was a vast, clear field. Together with Yomiel, she brought out the hamper and blankets. As the sun was setting, the two of them sat together on the blanket, wrapped up warm in their coats, ready for the chill that the night would bring, eating the food that they had brought with them. Soon enough, the sun had disappeared below the horizon and the sky was an inky black, studded with a tapestry of twinkling stars. Now that the night sky was in full display, they could lie down and take it all in.
"Wow." Sissel breathed in. "What a difference it makes when you're not in the city."
"I know." Yomiel was struck by the dazzling sight before him. It was so much more beautiful than he could even have imagined, and far more stunning than that they would see back home. "It really is amazing. Thank goodness it ended up being a clear night after all. Can't always trust those weather forecasts, you know?"
"Yeah." Sissel snuggled closer, resting her head in the crook of his arm. "This was a good idea you had. You've been wanting to do all sorts of things ever since you got out. I never know what you're going to think up next."
"There's lots of things I want to do with you." Yomiel kissed the top of her head. "I want to see all sorts of things, and I want to show them to you as well. I've realised what a wonderful world we really live in, there are so many beautiful things out there, and I want you to see them together with me." I want to show you there are so many things that are worth living for. That thought went unsaid. She wouldn't understand and it would probably sound far too ominous for her.
He wanted to show her there was so much more to the world than just him. Yomiel knew what she was capable of doing, that he basically amounted to her entire world, and while he was likely to be fine, especially with a ghost cat, he knew that anything could happen. Anything was possible. After all, he had been killed by a stray meteorite fragment in another timeline. What even were the chances of that happening?
"Aww, Yomiel. You are so sweet." Sissel draped her arm over him. "I love you, you know. I really do."
"I know," Yomiel murmured, turning over and putting his arm around her body, gently cradling her, bringing his lips to hers in a soft lingering kiss. "I love you too."
"Thank you for this." Her eyes were half closed and a dreamy smile graced her lips. "I can't wait to see even more things together with you."
"Yeah. I'm going to show you so much more, Sissel." Yomiel brought his forehead to hers, closing his eyes. "We'll find lots of things to do and see, together. I'll show you a wonderful world."
