Chapter Text
'So how were the winged shoes?' Luke smiled, crossing his arms against his chest.
He stood tall in front of Percy Jackson who started to slowly scratch the back of his neck, his green eyes averting Luke's blue and yellow ones in embarrassment.
'Um. About that... I kind of forgot about them in my bag, and I didn't end up using them. Sorry, Luke.' Percy apologized reluctantly, embarrassment flushing his ears in pink. The blonde raised his eyebrows and you could see the disappointment on his scarred face, but he tried not to let it show.
'I'm really sorry! I'm just stupid and forgetful, I know they meant a lot when you gave them to me and I-' Luke interrupted Percy stumbling over his syllables, now sweating and clenching his fists to stop his hands from acting carelessly.
You know how his ADHD is like.
Luke faintly gave a smile of reassurance to Percy and he looked up at him, eyebrows knitted in confusion and stress.
'It's really okay, Percy. You still managed to retrieve the Lightning Bolt without it and y'know what?' Luke put a warm hand on Percy's shoulder. 'I actually really admire that about you, you were brave.'
'Really?' the younger camper stammered.
'Yeah, definitely. You can just give me the shoes, it's no worries.'
Luke glanced at the unopened box with his packaged winged sneakers. After some seconds of analysing the box, he gave a curled smirk to Percy who was still full of shame, not opening his friend's gift. Luke patted him on his cheek to brighten his mood a little and now the dark haired boy could closely see how his scar adjusted and twitched to his smile.
'Cheer up, man. I told you it's fine. Tell me, you're all in one piece, right?'
Percy inhaled. 'Yeah. I am.'
'So what is there to worry about? It's just shoes.'
'Alright... Thank you, Luke.'
'It's no problem, Percy Jackson. Anytime.'
The younger camper chuckled slightly when Luke walked past and ruffled his dark blue hair. Some strands brushed his forehead softly.
Percy mumbled to himself. 'Thank you, Luke. Really.'
