Chapter Text

Another boring day at school doesn't faze you now. Everyday you're stuck in the infamous place called hell, a.k.a school. You don't have many friends there, but that's okay, you have your online friends whom you talk to everyday.

As you step through the doorway, you hear your parents arguing again about something called morgage and your father drinking the money away. Typical, they're always arguing about something, if it's not a misplaced plate then it's about cheating etc.

You sigh as you slip off your shoes, placing them neatly by the door. Taking off your jacket and hanging it up near the door, you notice your cat who's looking up at you with expecting eyes. They forgot to feed the cat. Again.

You walk towards your cat's food bowl and pick it up on your way to the kitchen.

You walk past your arguing parents and slip quietly in to the kitchen. You reach the counter where you find your cat's food, placing the bowl on the counter you fill it with dry cat food and put it down to the foot of the counter for your cat to eat. Sure enough, it starts munching on it like a wild animal that hasn't eaten in weeks.

With a sigh you walk towards the fridge and take a strawberry yogurt out, you put it on the counter while you reach for a spoon in one of the drawers.

Once you find it, you immediately begin eating the yogurt. A content exhale leaves your mouth, the yogurt tastes heavenly after the day you had.

After eating it, you walk upstairs to your room to play some games with your friends.

As you reach your room, you notice your door's open slightly. You don't think much of it as your mom probably went in to clean it this morning. You open the door..it's..pitch black.

You reach for the light switch but instead you touch something..fuzzy? Weird, your cat is downstairs eating and you don't have another one. Maybe it's one of your plushies, you think. You decide to take your phone from your back pocket to use as flashlight, you open it up and click the flashlight button.

The room lights up a bit and you're met with a pair of eyes, staring at you.

The eyes are so wide you can't even tell if the 'person' has eyelids. Every fiber in your body is screaming "Look away! Look away!" but you can't seem to do so. Their eyes are bloodshot with a look of deep desire to eat everything that moves.

In that moment you realize, you're screwed as the one behind you has already opened their mouth to swallow you whole.

You feel everything, it's teeth sharp like knives, grinding you up and crushing your bones with every bite.

You feel it break each of your ribs, then you feel a violent stab to your lungs.

Screaming now would only make things worse, not like you could anyway as it has already damaged your throat and cut every single vocal cord there.

You feel it swallow your head, crushing your skull in mere milliseconds.

You wonder how you're still alive..but you don't even have time to think as you feel it's claws digging in the back of your calves as it lifts your body more and more into it's mouth.

Your lungs fill up with blood and you ascend to the light at the end of the tunnel, ending this agonizing suffering.

Hours later you wake up in the comfort of your bed, lying underneath the cold sheets. You look around frantically, cold sweat running down your neck.

You search around for your slippers next to the bed but you can't find them, so you take your phone from the bedside table and once again use it as a flashlight. With your slippers now on your feet, you stand up and walk towards your bedroom door still using your phone as a flashlight. You reach the door and turn the doorknob, opening it with ease.

As you look around the empty dark hallway, you wonder what time it is. Your parents must've already gone to bed. Without thinking much about it, you head downstairs for some snacks. Each step creaks under your feet as you make your way down the stairs.

You finally reach the kitchen and search for snacks. Usually, your cat is at your legs, but tonight it seems..different somehow. Your cat is nowhere to be found, even when you call its name, it doesn't respond. Instead..you're just met with glowing eyes on the couch, there's that little rascal, you think.

As you take a few steps, you realize, when did your cat get so big?

That's not your cat. Definitely not. It has the face of your cat but the body of...you don't even know. You've never seen something so horrifying.

Without even an ounce of hesitation, you run upstairs to your parents room. You enter their room frantically asking them to wake up, you even shake them but..they're not your parents. They look like them but their eyes..their eyes aren't there, only empty eye sockets.

You stumble back in horror, your back hitting the cold wooden floor.

The fake parents rise from the bed, their movements inhumane. You attempt to move and scream, but something's holding onto your limbs with an iron grip.

You can't make out what it is but you sure do feel it. The monsters are now heading towards you with a smile that reaches their eyes, so, so many sharp teeth shining in the moon light.

Just as they're about to get to you, a strong arm grabs you by the back of your shirt, pulling you out of the room and shutting your parent's door shut tight. In the pitch black hallway you can't make out who saved you, you thank them profusely but they don't say anything back.

Finally, they light a candle and it lights up the hallway slightly and you eventually you can make out their face. Their mouth is sewed shut, dark bags under their eyes.

You attempt to scream but they place their hand on your mouth, silencing you. In their eyes you can see the urgency and the desire to stay silent. They lead you up to the attic, where you are safe for once.

Once you're up there, they let go of you. The attic is dimly lit, there's an old mattress on the ground with some fuzzy blankets. Looks cozy, you think.

The person pulls out a notebook and a pen from their jean pocket and scribble something on there.

After about one minute, they pass it to you, the note reads "Stay quiet, they will hear us." You understand that they mean the monsters you saw earlier and nod.

They take the notebook back, flip a page, then write some more. Once again, after a minute, they hand it to you.

"My name's Jamie, what's yours?"

You take the note and the pen from them and write down "I'm (your name), why'd you help me earlier?" you get to the point quickly, not wanting to waste time with meaningless chit chat, not that you don't want to get to know them by any means.

They look a bit stunned at first but they understand your need for an explanation. They take the notebook and pen back, writing "I don't want to lose another person to those..things.".

Your heart aches at the sadness in their eyes when they look up from the page and make eye contact with you. Clearly, Jamie has lost many people in this place you used to call home, you wonder how many were there and how long they've been here.

You give them a sympathetic look and place a reassuring hand on their shoulder. They flinch but eventually relax, appreciating your effort to comfort them.

They step away from you, putting the notebook and pen down onto one of the many drawers in the attic. They walk to the back of the attic and return with another mattress and placing it a few meters away from their own, taking one of the fuzzy blankets from their own and place it on yours.

You give them a thankful nod, thanking them for trying to make you comfortable for the night. They once again pick up their notebook and plan and write "Let's go to sleep, I'll try to explain everything tomorrow. For now, we should get rest."

You nod your head in agreement and walk towards your mattress and lay down and you cover yourself with the blanket.

After a few blissful moments they blow the candles placed around the room and the room is now almost pitch black, only the moonlight shining through the small window provides some light.

Although, you can't get the image of your parents..or fake parents, if you will. You try to close your eyes to get some well needed sleep, but the fear within you doesn't let you.

Every little creak in the floor makes your heartbeat race up and you feel your chest tightening like there's no air surronding you anywhere.

Your anxiety spikes up, your breathing becomes more rushed and more irregular. The mattress let's out a small squeak a you sit up,eyes darting around the dark room, trying to regain some calmness, but the more you look, the more you become more scared with each passing moment.

Jamie's eyes meet yours, giving you that reassuring look they once gave you when they got you out of that god-forsaken room with the people you once called 'mom' and 'dad'. Your breathing becomes more regular and your heartbeats gets back to it's normal pace.

Jamie lights a candle next to them to provide some comfort, after observing this, you lay back down on the mattress, it squeaking once more.

Your eyelids start dropping and you do nothing to stop it, your mind's at ease finally. The thought that someone is there to protect you is enough to fill you with the sense of comfort and your mind wanders off to dreamland and to the day ahead of you.

Anticipating what Jamie might tell you about these monsters that seem to live off of scaring people and giving them heart attacks.
