Please, stay under this cosmos

Summary:

“Pisces and Leo. Isn’t it pretty?”

For An and Kohane, neither of them really fit the sun or moon solely. In the end, their bond lies intertwined amongst the stars eternally.

AnhaneWeek25 Day 1: Sun/Moon/Stars + Yearning

Work Text:

Amber rays through her eyes were full of life.

Kohane saw honey-like, sparkling bedazzlement in her expression: glowing under the warmth of a bustling summer, shining under the passionate gaze of the sun, the townspeople and the clear skies. An embodied light and gave it to everyone within her radius.

On the side of Vivid Street, Kohane would be able to gaze at her overflowing fury and fierce strive alongside the instrumental music with disbelief and admiration. In their daily lives, she could see her smile that embraced happiness and joy which induced courage and faith.

Perhaps that’s why initially, Kohane saw herself as a tiny moon. Lifted by the sun’s fire, only visible because of the absolute love given from her partner. Surely, she was just the supporting counterpart, and she thought she wouldn’t mind at all. If reflecting the vivid colours of An was what she did best, she would eternally turn the mirror to face that brightness and cast herself in a shadow behind.

However, for An, the entire solar system and beyond could be seen twinkling, growing and smiling within Kohane’s irises.

She knew there was a star within her, waiting to grow and be seen, from the moment they met. Kohane had become a beautiful embodiment of endearing warmth that placed a chokehold on An’s heart, and a lit up flame that ran on a never-ending fire and her hunger to improve onstage.

It was a power carried so naturally, so adoringly as she watched her partner progress. When timid, the little stars would soften silently, but leave behind a promising glow and curiosity. When confident and burning, the essence of each planet, every red giant and cosmic object —moons and all— would burst into a brilliant supernova. A burst that carried so much effort, energy and beauty. That was what An saw in Kohane.

So when both partners realised each other to be equals, to be counterparts completely, their universes finally collided, merging and meshing perfectly in sync.

“An-chan, is it too cold out here?”

The girls of Vivid BAD SQUAD were out stargazing, just on the steps outside An’s door in a cool night. Matching shades of navy blue embraced her hair, whilst those same hues dyed Kohane’s in soft shadows.

“No, it’s perfect!” An cheered, stretching her limbs out over the stairs. “Thanks for coming over, Kohane.”

Two mugs of hot chocolate gradually cooled on the cold concrete; they sat on fallen and browned leaves beside them. Two airplanes flew over in a casual race and sped on into the clouds, two stars blinked brightly to Earth, outshining the others.

Then, two pairs of eyes met, both filled with the light of entire galaxies and utter adoration. It was a bit of a shock within the silence, as both of them were faced with glimmering colonies of stars and the absolute magnitude of beauty that they had always seen within each other.

Kohane was the first to soften, melting into a familiar smile. “You know, Honami-chan actually told me about viewing the stars today.”

The collection of stars above seemed to shine brighter now. “Apparently, today is a rare occasion where you can see two constellations at the same time,” she continued.

Pisces and Leo. Isn’t it pretty?”

Amber eyes had been fixated on Kohane as she talked and explained. An hadn’t moved an inch. She was staring, she probably looked strange, but she was staring because she couldn’t look away from the sun. It was impossible, it was burning an image into her eyes, her brain and memory. Just this once, she wanted to stare at the sun forever.

“I-It is,” An exhaled, before Kohane had the chance to feel awkward. “Yeah, I’ve never seen anything like it.” But her eyes were still darting from the sky to her partner as she mumbled her thoughts.

“Wait, Mochizuki-san is into astrology? Is that the reason for her band’s name with Hinomori-san and the others?”

“Yeah! Apparently, they chose it because of the meteor shower…”

Under the protection of the stars, under the gaze of each other’s light, they talked and talked like they always would. Hoping for their interconnected future, hoping to stay beside each other forever. They were bounded by the same world, the same cosmos and universe that they could call home, after all.

(The conversation eventually entered a light-hearted debate, picking apart at the bits of astronomical knowledge they knew.

“But what good is the moon without the sun?” An argued.

“Well, it will always be there to promote the sun’s existence and light. In the end, isn’t it kind of co-dependent?” Kohane laughed.)

Notes:

ITS ANHANESEASON AGAINNNN

I actually nearly forgot when anhane week was because of my finals but I managed to quickly finish this piece for day1! I will also be writing for some of the later days along this week if possible: loved writing this one especially since I could finally express a hand’s relationship beyond a standard sun/moon trope. For me, they’re really interchangeable at times.

This is mainly sun/moon/stars centred for the d1 theme however I did want to integrate descriptive elements of yearning too to emphasise the gay

(I also have a nettaigyo fic in the works so for those waiting it will likely be up after anhane week!!)

Thank you for reading! (+sorry if there are any grammatical errors) Happy vivids week for everyone celebrating 🐹🎧
