Work Text:

“I voted for Keith. He’s our leader plus, he’s half Galra, so I think he’s like the future” Lance said looking down.

They’ve been stuck in these stupid games for god knows how long, but all he could think was that Lance chose him, for once. Lance chose him. It wasn’t the way he wanted to be chosen. He had dreamed of soft caresses and confessions. Dreams that had been crushed long ago, at least that's what he thought. Now he couldn’t breath, couldn’t do anything but stand awkwardly and stare forward. Keith wanted to see what he looked like, what Lance looked like when he said that. It would’ve been easy to peek over Pidge, catch a glimpse of that stupid smile Keith had begun to love, that hair that Lance spent hours on- something he couldn’t stand at first- but now he waits for him to finish his routine to be able to smell the scent as he walks by, glowing.

He didn’t even realize it was his turn to speak, he just tried to keep his face neutral.

“Why Lance?” asked this stupid fucking host that Keith wanted to punch.

Why Lance? Why him? Could they really not tell? Of course he chose this boy, with a warm smile, and a laugh that could melt glaciers off of any icy planet. The boy who believed in him when he couldn’t, the boy who had stood by his side countless times in life or death situations. Whether that be death by aliens or laughter. Keith knew he loved Lance, for so damn long. Even when he tried to run away to the blade of Marmora he couldn’t stay away. Not from Lance, it didn't matter how many galaxies apart they were.

But, Lance didn’t feel the same, he never will. So he answers the question with something stupid about finding Lance annoying, knowing that his heart aches for that boy, and hopes they get out of these stupid games soon.
