Work Text:
The sunlight enveloped the olive carpet in Monika's office in gold. The warmth that would've come from the light was actually emanating from the heater in the corner of the room. It was winter, and a harsher one than usual. Monika was wearing a black woolen jumper, feeling perfectly content with the temperature. She has been working since 12 a.m. and now it was almost dinner time. This evening, it was Felicia's turn to make something to eat.
Monika took her glasses off and put them in their case, slowly rubbing her eyelids. She got up, taking a handful of papers with her, walking out the door. Next stop: her room. She opened the door, floor tiles creaking beneath her feet.
"...Wie bitte?" Monika looked around her room, which looked like there has been a burglar in the house: the bedsheets were off the bed, some stuff from the nightdrawer were scattered across the room, and Monika's wardrobe was wide open, the clothes messily shoved in there.
"Was ist denn hier passiert?" She whispered, looking around the room in mild concern. She was about to stop all that she was doing to put the objects back in their place and have some tidiness, but her stomach had other plans, making a loud noise that echoed through the empty (and disorganized) room.
'I'll take care of this later,' She thought, begrudgingly putting the paperwork on the bedside. "I'll have to ask Felicia about this, though. This is insane." She slowly closed the bedroom door, turning on her heel and walking down the stairs.
The smell of pasta instantly filled her nostrils, making her smile. She turned around the corner, calling for the brunette: "Felicia! Are you done?"
"Yup!" Felicia could finally be seen by Monika. "I was just about to come looking for you!" She jumped right in front of the blonde, sparkles in her eyes. She was wearing a very familiar white jumper.
Ding!
Monika's eyes narrowed. "Is this why our room is upside down?" She pointed an accusatory finger at Felicia. The brunette looked down in the most innocent way possible.
Her gaze watched Felicia's face curiously. "Oh! I honestly forgot I even had this on me... hehe..." She awkwardly looked back at Monika. "Uhm... Sorry about the room, though... Ve... Didn't mean to leave it like that..."
"Oh, so you did that."
"I– Yes! But it wasn't for nothing!" She put her palm on her chest. "I was looking for this!" She flashed a big smile to Monika, who just now finally realized what was up. Felicia was wearing Monika's clothes. Well, it wasn't something new, but seeing Felicia in an oversized jumper was indeed... cute...
She cleared her throat. "And why did you go looking for.." She gestured towards Felicia. "This specific piece of clothing?" She rubbed her temple, mumbling. "Ich bin verwirrt..."
Felicia blinked a few times, blush creeping on her sun-kissed cheeks. "Ve... Well... I got kinda chilly... And you know how I still don't know how to use your heater?" She looked at Monika, waiting for something. Monika hummed in agreement. Felicia continued. "And you were working, and I didn't want to disturb you..." She looked to the side.
"..Yes?" Monika said, confusion clearly written on her face. "Go on."
"Ve, then, I thought: 'What's the most adorable thing I ever saw Monika wear?' And i came to the conclusion that this was the answer." She giggled, covering her mouth with her palm.
Monika stared at Felicia dumbfounded, no words being able to be formed. She cleared her throat, trying to regain her composure. She sighed. "Let's just..." She gestured weakly at the beautifully arranged table. "Take our meal, okay?"
"Oh! Yeah!" Felicia ran back to the table, almost throwing herself onto her chair and taking the fork in her hand. She watched Monika expectantly until the blonde took a seat at the table herself.
Monika looked at the bowl of pasta, feeling Felicia's eyes burn holes through her. Felicia always did this when she cooked food but never admitted to it. Monika stopped pestering her about it and thought that it was just to see if the blonde liked the food. Which there shouldn't even be a moment of doubt that she does.
She picked up the fork, twirled some of the pasta on it, and brought it to her mouth. She should have familiarized with Felicia's cooking by now, but every time she tasted something made by the brunette, she couldn't help but smile. Felicia saw this and smiled back, not a smile that reached the ears, but a small one, one that expressed gratitude.
The two ate together in silence. Every time Felicia looked at Monika, she found that the blonde was already looking at her, pretty much staring. When the woman would get caught she would look away and cough, while her face was all red. Felicia couldn't help but look away too, grinning sheepishly. Both felt like they were high-school kids inlove, well, as much as they could feel like that.
Felicia finished her meal first, but she waited patiently for the German woman to eat. She rested her head on her hands watching the blonde with such attention that you could say she was a painting in a museum. Monika, of course, felt that she was being watched and her moves became more and more nervous.
"I– Ich bin fertig. Danke, Felicia. This was amazing." She praised, then whispered, "Du kannst wirklich gut kochen." And gave a small, but genuine smile.
The brunette blinked a few times, her brain trying to decipher what Monika said. When she did, Felicia couldn't help but get up from her seat and jump on her girlfriend, nuzzling her like a cat.
"Woah!" She chuckled, slowly getting up from her chair and properly hugging Felicia back. They stood like that a few seconds, feeling eachother's warmth. Felicia sighed happily as she backed up enough so she could look at Monika, the latter rising her hand up and going through the brown, long hair, scratching her scalp like a cat's.
"Ve..." She reached up for Monika's hand and intertwined their fingers. "I'm still sorry about the mess..." She could see Monika start to frown so she stood up on her toes, and pressed a kiss to her lips. "I was thinking we could clean it up together?" She smiled awkwardly.
"Hm." Monika thought for a second, "You're either planning to kill me or you hit your head." She deadpanned.
"What– No! I'm being serious!" She said, her voice full of false shock.
Monika raised her eyebrow, "Mhm. Well, if you were really serious you'd sprint to that room. Right now." She challenged the brunette. The blonde expected the Italian woman to back down, say some half-assed excuse. Felicia looked at her, her face emotionless, eyes wide open.
"Okay. Give me 15 minutes. No more or less." The brunette smugly said, raising a finger in the air, and then ran so fast Monika wondered if she ever did that during training.
Monika remained in the same place for a few second looking behind her "Fünfzehn minuten, huh?" She scoffed, making her way to the table and taking the plates and the forks to the sink. "Let's see how you manage that." She reached for the sponge and the bottle of dish soap, squeezing its liquid onto it. She began washing the dishes, her hand moving in circular motions along every object until it was squeaky clean. The only sounds that were heard in the kitchen was the water running and Monika's occasional humming.
In the end she was done, and it had been only 6 minutes. "She still has time..." Monika thought. "Well, I won't go against her word." And with that she went straight to the living room and took a seat on the couch, taking the remote in her hand.
9 minutes left... Monika turned the TV on.
6 minutes left... Monika looked around the room anxiously, wanting to get up to do something.
3 minutes left... Monika couldn't sit still.
1 minute left... Monika already started to get up.
The moment the 15 minutes had passed, Monika heard a shriek up from the stairs. "Monika! Monika!" As she reached the base for the staircase she could see Felicia waving her arms like a little kid. "I did it!" The blonde looked down as she walked up the stairs.
'She probably made an even bigger mess...' Monika sourly thought, she loved Felicia, but the woman was known to suck at being tidy.
"Hey! Come on! You won't be disappointed!" She giggled, holding Monika's arm as she walked to their room. "Wait!" She stopped abruptly. "Put your hand over your eyes!" The blonde raised an eyebrow. "Ve! Do it! So it'll be an even bigger surprise!"
The German woman only sighed as she fulfilled the brunette's request. "Happy now?" She asked flatly, the hand not being held by Felicia covering her eyes.
"Ve, not happier than you'll be after you see it!" She declared, reaching to grab the doorknob. Monika heard the door click and Felicia dragging her a few steps further in the room. "Okay...You can look now!" She whispered clasping her hands as she watched Monika with her big brown eyes.
The blonde begrudgingly lowered her hand, almost not wanting to look. "Felicia, ich bin ernst, If the room is upside do–" But her words got cut off by her own shock. She looked around the room completely perplexed, the bed was neatly made and the closet was properly closed with no clothes around it.
Felicia looked at Monika with big expectant eyes, "It's clean, isn't it?" She giggled, running up to the bed and landing face first on it.
"Felicia... You actually..."
Felicia raised her face from the sheets. "Of course I did!" She beckoned Monika to come over. "Come here!" She lightly smacked the place next to her.
The blonde quietly sat on the bed, looking at the brunette, her eyes sparkling at Felicia. "I'm impressed."
"Told you I could!" Felicia flashed one of her signature smiles. "You're happy aren't you?"
"I already said I was impressed... no need to rub it in..." Monika sighed.
"Whaaat?" The brunette looked offended. "I would never do such a thing!" Felicia laughed and got up on her knees facing Monika.
"Sure you wouldn't." Monika leaned in and, hesitantly, gave Felicia a peck. After the gesture, Monika smiled fully.
They just sat there in silence, basking in eachother's gaze, blue, icy eyes staring into brown ones and vice versa. "Ve... Should we watch a movie?"
"Das ist eine tolle idee." Monika got up, reaching for Felicia. "I'd love to do that with you." Her voice gentle.
"Ho le migliori idee!" The brunette jumped off the bed and took the German woman's hand. Both leaving the room.
