Chapter Text
“Tae, look. Cutie’s back again. Been quite some time since we’ve seen him here, hasn’t it?” Jimin whispered, nudging his friend, while discreetly (or so he thought) trying to gesture at the dark-haired young man who’d just walked into the coffee shop.
Taehyung looked up from the table he was wiping, to frown at the clock hanging over the door of the café. “But it’s almost closing time, Jiminie”, he groaned with slight annoyance. Sighing, he picked up his pad and started making his way to where the tall guy had slumped into a corner booth. He couldn’t help noticing, for what seemed like the millionth time, how absolutely amazing Cutie looked, despite the exhausted expression that shadowed his face. His eyes drank in the way Cutie’s white shirt seemed to fit him perfectly, showing off his broad shoulders and well-maintained physique. He was definitely hot enough to pass off for a model, Tae thought, as he approached the table to take his order.
Barely glancing at him, Cutie spoke, pulling out his phone from pocket as he did so, “One plain black coffee, please”.
“Coming right up!”, chirped Taehyung, ignoring his tiredness. The fact that it was almost 12 am, and that he was practically drooping inside, couldn’t mar his cheerful temperament.

After that night, Taehyung didn’t see the cute guy for about two weeks. Not that he’d been actively keeping a lookout for him, of course. As he drew up the bill for the lady in front of him, smiling at her two little kids, who came in every week for chocolate-chip muffins, he happened to look up at the television screen which hung on the wall opposite him.
Arirang had been turned on, because both he and Jimin loved anything to do with KPop.
Tae more so, probably, because he’d harboured a secret desire to be a part of it, to be up on stage, singing for thousands of people. He’d only told Jimin about it, because his dreams felt too precious to him, to be spoken out loud.
Suddenly, the Big Hit logo appeared on the screen. Music followed, a catchy beat which immediately made him want to stop what he was doing and pay attention to the screen.
“Big Hit Entertainment is proud to announce that we will be launching a new solo artist. Everybody, mark your calendars for Jeon JungKook, performing exclusively on MBC on 1st July, 2016!”
Tae was curious to see what this new guy looked like. Hopefully, he’d be at least half as hot as Cutie, he mused, flushing slightly at the thought. Cutie was too attractive to not be a distraction.
A soft voice punctuated his thoughts, pulling him out of his reverie (Cutie didn’t make him forget everything around him, nope). As Tae looked up, his eyes widened in surprise. Of all people, it was Cutie who was singing. Or rather, Jeon JungKook, Tae thought, rolling the name around in his mouth. It suited him, he smiled.
'‘Kookie'’, he giggled to himself at the silly nickname.
