Work Text:
"You have everything?" Hirano asks his husband with a furrowed brow.
Kagiura finishes fiddling with the passenger seat of their car, trying his best to make his long legs comfortable for the upcoming car ride. He buckles his seat belt, turns to give Hirano a smile that has no right to be as cute as it is and says "Yup, I'm ready!"
Hirano gives him a smirk. "You're definitely sure? Last time we took a road trip we had to turn around thirty minutes into the drive to get a charger you '100% had in your bag', Akira."
A pout spreads across Akira's face as he redirects his eye contact to the suddenly very interesting side view mirror. "You tease me too much…"
Hirano chuckles at his childish antics. He leans over to ruffle his hair and watches as Akira turns back towards him to lean into his touch.
He pulls away and starts up the car. "I double checked your bags anyway, so there's nothing to worry about." He looks over to catch Akira's eyes for a second before reversing the car. "I'm glad you brought your panda boxers." He teases.
"Taiga san!!!"
Hirano snickers and flashes him a grin as he pulls out of their driveway.
It's their first anniversary and they both decided to take time off work to take a camping trip for a couple nights. Hirano wanted a change from the countless hotels he's had to stay in over the years and Kagi wanted to do something outdoors, so the plans basically made themselves.
They've never gone camping before and neither of them know how to set up a tent. But like most things, Kagiura's positive it'll work out and Hirano trusts him (even if he really shouldn't).
Half of the time spent down the road consists of showing each other songs; taking turns picking and choosing Cd's they brought from their collection at home.
Hirano's not much of a singer, but Kagiura is, so he usually gets swayed into singing anyway. Hirano can speak English pretty much fluently thanks to his job. It makes communicating with people from other countries a lot easier, looks good on paper and makes him even more reliable in certain situations. But overall, his favorite perk about speaking English is that Akira thinks it's the coolest thing ever.
A Chappell Roan song plays and Hirano can feel his heart prickle with heat as Akira does his best to sing along to it. He has a heavy accent and he definitely has no clue what any of the words mean, especially considering half of the what he's saying is straight gibberish.
When Hirano travels, he always brings home a new Cd for Kagi to listen to. He likes finding new favorites and watching his face light up when Hirano finds a album of a niche artist he likes in an some old record store halfway across the globe.
"I got a wand and a rabbit!" Akira sings out loud and proud. "How's my pronunciation getting?" He asks as he looks over at Hirano searching for some sort of praise. "I'm getting better right?"
Hirano stifles a laugh and nods, trying his best to not lose it. "Yep, I'm sure you'll be mistaken for a native speaker in no time, Aki." He quickly glances over at him with a shit eating grin to see what kind of sulky face he's making.
Just as predicted he's staring back at him with an unimpressed pouty stare. "You're so mean, Taiga san."
"I'm not mean," Hirano sticks out his tongue as a childish rebuttal. "It's not my fault that you're way too easy to tease."
Akira reaches out to pinch his thigh which in turn makes Hirano's leg flinch as he yelps. "Ow! Rule number one, don't touch the driver!!" And because Hirano is actually just as immature, he shoves at his shoulder, to push him away.
From the corner of his eye, Hirano spots Kagi's pout ease into a silly looking smile. Kagiura brings his attention back to the Cd as he takes it out to pop in a new one. "What does that song mean anyway? It's about rabbits?" Hirano doesn't answer 100% truthfully. Not because he thinks Akira can't handle it, he's a grown man that's said and …done a lot worse.
No, it's because if he finds out, he'll never stop singing those lines to him with a teasing grin that unfortunately for Hirano, never fails to make him flustered.
"Yeah, she loves rabbits." He 'answers'.
Akira side eyes him, clearly suspicious but drops the topic.
In the next couple seconds a different song comes on and Hirano's eyebrows rise as his face lights up. "You brought Backstreet Boys?"
Kagi grins at him as he turns the volume up.
Their little road trip is almost over and Hirano is only around five to ten minutes away from pulling into the camping lodge. The music's still playing, but it's from the radio this time as Kagiura got tired of constantly switching the Cd's.
It's a lot quieter with only the faint humming of whatever song is playing in the background. Curious, Hirano glances over at his husband.
Just as expected; he's fast asleep with his head resting against the window.
Hirano wants to stop and take a picture of him, but he's still on the highway and he's relatively sure that's illegal.
Akira's wearing a green sleeveless hoodie that fits well to his chest and stomach. Hirano had always thought that this specific shade of green suited him and that it matched whatever shade of green he swears he can see in Kagi's hair.
'He looks so handsome', is his predominant thought.
They've been together for so many years at this point, a life without Akira in it seems unthinkable.
Their quiet mornings where they're too tired to even speak means the whole world to him. Their busy nights where they're tipsy and falling all over each other mean the whole world to him. Every single moment with Akira in his life means the whole world to him. His life's changed forever with him in it and he never wants to go back.
When Hirano parks and turns the car off, he looks over at Akira, his husband, who's still fast asleep even as the car's come to a stop. Hirano's suspicions about him being more tired than he's been letting on seem to be correct.
He's such a hard worker, Hirano wants to let him sleep for even just a little bit longer.
He ever so gently runs the tips of his fingers over Kagi's balled up fist where it's lying on the passenger seat. When he doesn't even stir, he cups it fully with his hand and rubs his thumb over his knuckles. He looks at his face and just watches.
It's rare to see him like this. So calm, not working himself to the core with a smile on his face as he does so. Just resting safely with Hirano watching over him. Hirano; the person who would and wants to be by his side forever; the person who's dedicated himself to making sure Akira has a safe place to rest and relax whenever and wherever he needs to for the rest of his life.
He lifts his knuckles up to his lips to give them a soft kiss and whispers. "I love you Akira, thank you for being in my life."
A couple minutes later, he blinks his eyes open looking completely exhausted but still manages to give his husband a sleepy smile. "Hello."
Hirano smiles warmly at him and pecks at his hand once again. "Morning, Aki."
Kagi chuckles softly and leans his head down with a light groan. "I'm so tired, aren't you too?"
Hirano brings Akira's hand over to rest on his lap as he pets and massages over it. "Nah, I'm alright. Thanks for worrying about me though." He gives him a grin. "You're exhausted, Aki."
Akira rubs his eyes and sits up straight. He gives him a weak smile and leans over to press a kiss into his hair. "You just drove for two hours, Taiga. You should be the one taking a nap." He suggests.
Hirano looks out his window to find it filled with racing raindrops.
Neither seem too excited to get outside and battle with trying to set up a tent during this downpour.
He turns back around, Akira's wrist still in hand, and gives it one more kiss before looking at him with big sugary eyes. "Wanna take a quick nap together?"
Akira's eyes go wide and he looks outside at the rain before turning back to Hirano. "Here? In the car?"
Hirano hums. "Yeah. You wanna?"
Kagi kinda just stares dumbly at him for a couple seconds so he huffs, rolls his eyes and opens his car door.
He can hear Akira's concerned calls even from outside as he runs as fast as he can to his side of the car and hurls open the door.
"Make room for me. I'm gonna sit in your lap." He moves himself inside and Akira instinctively opens his arms for him to slide into.
Hirano slams the car door shut before he sits himself down on Akira's lap and grabs onto his shoulders. "Hey." He grins at him. "This okay?"
Akira's blushing as he nods dumbly which makes Hirano laugh. Hirano shifts around in his lap before his expression turns to a more concerned one. "Wait, shit. Your legs aren't gonna go numb?"
Akira enthusiastically shakes his head which seems to take him out of his dopey state, "Nope!" He pulls Taiga in so he's resting his head on his shoulder. "This is perfect." He sinks small into his secure arms and chest and closes his eyes for a second.
"Just a quick nap." Hirano lets out a sigh into Akira's shoulder. "I lied, I actually am a bit tired."
Akira chuckles and kisses his hair. "I know."
He leans over Taiga, trying his best to not disturb him as he turns on the radio. He leans back and fully wraps Taiga up in his arms, rubbing his back softly after he does so.
The rain pours down outside as random songs hum in the background. Akira runs his fingers through Hirano's hair as he breathes and lets his heart beat slow to match his partner's.
"Taiga san?" He asks out after a few moments of silence.
"Hm?" He sleepily hums out in response.
"I heard what you said earlier when I was asleep."
Hirano looks up at him with a furrowed brow before his face and neck flood red. He smacks Kagi's chest and barks out. "You little sneak! I thought you were asleep!"
Akira grabs at his hands as he laughs. He gives his fingers little kisses just like Hirano did to his earlier. "I love you too, Taiga san. I love hearing you say it."
Hirano's eyes soften and he leans his head forward to nuzzle it against Kagi's. "I know."
Kagi closes his eyes and brings Hirano in a little closer. "You're so cute and cuddly like this." Hirano grumbles first and then finally he chuckles. "Don't tell anyone." He whispers.
He cups Kagi's cheeks in his hands and brings him forward for a long and slow kiss.
As they kiss, the radio switches to a Paramore song they both like. Hirano likes the lyrics and Kagi likes the vocals and the instrumental in the background. Kagi's eyes light up at hearing the song and Hirano feels himself fall even more in love.
"Will you teach me the lyrics to this one some day, Taiga san?"
Hirano's happiness feels uncontrollable as his lips widen into a grin.
"Sure, Aki kun. As long as you promise not to sing about rabbits and wands anymore."
He laughs and looks into his eyes with warm fuzzies in his stomach.
"Never."
Hirano leans up to kiss him again before nuzzling himself back against his chest with the rain pouring and the radio humming in the background to ease them both into sleep.
