Work Text:
If you had to ask Katsuki if he likes the new changes to Yamikumo & his relationship after entering U.A., he’d probably say he didn’t like it.
‘It’s as if he doesn’t need me any more,’ Katsuki thought, as he laid in his dorm bed. Laying in nothing but silence, accompanied by the frequent ticking of the clock on the wall. ‘It’s as if he outgrew me.’
Katsuki figured he doesn’t need anyone else but his closest friend. He didn’t mind being Mikumo’s only friend, he didn’t mind having Mikumo as his only true friend. Anti-social would be a direct antonym to describe Katsuki, lonely would be a much suitable word.
Since day 1, Katsuki observed how Mikumo surrounded himself with people, friends, friends to make his own social circle. A circle Katsuki didn’t quite fit into. His new friends say Katsuki is too blunt, too honest, not very sensitive to what others think. Both Mikumo & Katsuki argued about this topic, only briefly but enough to make Mikumo wonder about putting a space between Katsuki and his new social circle.

“I don’t get why you still let him speak like that to everyone, Mikumo.”
“You know he doesn’t mean anything harsh Yuu,” Mikumo protested with a defendful purose. “He can be extremely blunt at times, but he’s extremely sweet once you understand him.”
“Whatever you say Mikumo. So, about that new café I told you about…” Yuu informed.
Katsuki could only watch his friend speak to the round faced girl, one of the many few he’s seen Mikumo ever talk to, from a distance behind. Behind them where he couldn’t see the tinge of sourness in his eyes. He doesn’t know why his heart is filled with such loathness from seeing the two communicate.
The feeling of lonliness and abandonment starts to tint Katsuki’s mind. The fear of being left all alone in a new social environment spooked him.
. . .
Sparring became a new struggle for the spikey blonde. There wasn’t a head he was familiar with, a person who he has made small talk with, or just anybody who wouldn’t look at him awkwardly to spar with. Lost in his own thoughts, he failed to see a dark red head with shark-like teeth making his way towards him.
Unfortunately for Katsuki, his mind is set on Yamikumo. It believes the only way to fill the lonliness in his heart is through his closest friend. He doesn’t know why his mind thinks that way, he can’t help but follow his brain’s ideology.

And there he laid. Just Katsuki, his thoughts, the clock ticking on the wall, the air whispering from his portable heater and his solitude. He wanted to talk to Mikumo about how he feels, but he just doesn’t. He hasn’t gotten a moment.
Which is a lie, he could’ve told him many times. He could’ve done it over text, email even. But he hasn’t. Perhaps Katsuki is afraid of what Mikumo will say. What if he defends his new friends? What if he doesn’t look at him the same way?
Maybe it’s best if he doesn’t talk about his frustration at all.
