forgotten memories , drowned in static

Summary:

{ " I've tried to reminisce . I've tried to remember at least one thing from the life I no longer live . All I'm greeted with , however , is the static . And it makes me remember :
I've been staring at the television for far too long . " }

Work Text:

When I try to recount the memories of that time…or, rather, any part of my past…it’s odd. All my mind goes to is television static. I’m sure that I did something in my life. I know I have, in fact. The problem is, however, if you were to ask me anything about myself, I would not be able to reply. I don’t remember a single detail from the past god knows how long and it scares me.

At this moment, I attempt to look at my surroundings. All I can see, however, is the static— a black and white jumble of shapes.

It’s strange, this being the only thing I can see. For some reason, the sight feels…familliar? For some reason, the static feels warm. It feels like it’s drawing closer to me. That, however, was an illusion.

Out of the corner of my eye, I spot something. A familiar figure. It’s quite surprising— it blends in with the background. I was surprised to find someone throughout the static. The only reason I was able to distinguish it from the distracting background were its eyes. They looked unnatural. They were a bright pink color— the only color I was able to see; it was distracting, unsettling, even among the moving shapes that surrounded the both of us. I tried to move forward. I was unable. The figure moved closer to me. This time, it wasn’t my eyes playing tricks on me.

Before I had time to react, it was already behind me. It started to say something–

I woke up suddenly. The room was dark, only illuminated by the small television screen. The screen displayed static— the same familiar, disorganized pattern from before. I was sitting down in a chair far too close to the screen.

I got up from the chair and went to turn on the room’s light. While I was at it, I turned off the television and made a mental note to myself to write down what I had experienced later. As I turned on the light, I noticed something that I wasn’t able to see in the dark. There was a card on my desk. Weird. It looked similarly to a business card. I picked it up.

The only thing written was an address, followed by “Important. I need you for something”. I’m not entirely sure who this was from, but I had a few ideas.

I would figure out what that nightmare was about later. Maybe I was staring at the static for too long. For now, I needed to find out what this person wanted from me. I put on a t-shirt and a jacket and went outside.
