Work Text:
An has always been strange. It's never really shocked Kohane.
Yet, in the past couple of weeks, she's been stranger than ever.
Usually, An goes out with Kohane every morning before she heads off to her first class—yet every day she’s asked, An has made some lame excuse to get out of it.
She's either too tired, not feeling well, or she has a big assignment to do before class. Even though she never sees An doing any work.
Kohane was sick of An blatantly lying to her face like this.
On top of that, An suddenly switched all her classes to night ones. It was strange to Kohane—An had always been a morning person. It seems she can only operate past sunset now.
Whatever is wrong with An, Kohane is determined to get to the bottom of it.
Kohane tried inviting her out for dinner to maybe try and talk, but when she mentioned the restaurant, An looked sick—like the idea of eating there was enough to make her vomit on the spot.
“An..? Are you ok?” Kohane questions, her tone laced with concern.
An smiles, seemingly recovering from her nausea quickly.
“I'm fine!” An replies—but the slight hint of worry on her face doesn't go unnoticed by Kohane.
Just what is going on with this girl?
Kohane originally planned on observing in silence. She just wanted to gather information and try to help that way. However, An hasn't come out of her room all day—not even to greet her.
She was worried. An always greets her. She's done it since they moved in together. It's just not right.
Kohane walks up to An’s bedroom door, hesitating for a bit. Maybe she should let her be. She's allowed to miss one day.
She knocks on An’s door anyway.
“An..?” Kohane speaks through the door, waiting for a response from the other.
When she doesn’t get an answer, she knocks again—harder this time.
“An? Are you okay?” Kohane’s voice is a little louder now, worry seeping into her tone.
Still no response.
Kohane panics. She didn’t see An leave that morning, she knows she’s in her room.
“An, if you don't answer I'm coming in.” Kohane declares, waiting for something. Anything. Any sign that An is okay.
Nothing.
Kohane bites the inside of her cheek, her hand slowly moving down to the doorknob. She hesitates for a bit longer—scared of what might be beyond the door.
She's strong. She can do this.
Kohane pushes An’s door open, immediately met with almost pitch darkness—the tiniest hint of light coming from the now open door.
“An…?” Kohane whispers, searching around her room.
Kohane's eyes land on the corner. The full-length mirror that An normally keeps there is now covered—in fact, every mirror in her room is either covered or turned around. As if she's trying to avoid seeing her own reflection.
Her eyes continue scanning the room, finally finding An’s figure—but something's off.
She’s just… sitting there. Staring at Kohane. Her hair mostly covers her face, yet she can feel An’s eyes boring into her.
“An..?” Kohane repeats, slowly stepping closer to An’s figure on the bed. “What's going on with you..? I called for you like three times…”
An doesn't reply for a moment, she simply continues staring. If Kohane didn't know An so well, she would be terrified.
“Kohane.” An finally speaks, her voice low, almost pained.
“Kohane.. Im hungry”
“You're.. Hungry..?” Kohane repeats, confused about how being hungry could cause her to act like this.
Though… now that she thinks about it. She can't remember seeing An eat…like…At all these past weeks.
“Well, I'll cook you something!” Kohane declares, turning back towards the kitchen.
An reaches out to grab Kohane’s wrist.
“Don’t want that.” She replies simply. Kohane is even more confused now. She turns around to question her more—then she sees it.
An’s eyes. Usually a bright, fiery orange, are now cold. Dead. And most importantly—a dark, blood red.
Suddenly, it all makes sense to her—The way she avoided going out during the day, refusing the dinner Kohane would cook, and the fact that every mirror was covered. She gets it.
“An..?” Kohane mutters, staring into those cold, red eyes. “How long?”
An blinks, she's so out of it she takes another moment to respond.
“What?”
“How long have you gone without blood?” Kohane asks, choosing to sit down on her bed instead of running away.
“Since I turned.” An reluctantly replies. Kohane can see the struggle An is having to keep her eyes off her skin.
Kohane sighs, she wishes An had told her sooner.
“Okay.” Kohane reaches up, brushing her hair away to expose her neck. She watches An’s eyes widen as she realizes what she's offering.
“You…you’re hungry right..? Then drink from me.” She declares, trying to ignore the way her voice quivers.
“Kohane... I can't.” An mumbles, it takes actual effort for her to tear her eyes away from Kohane’s neck
“Yes you can.”
An stares at Kohane's determination, then down to her exposed neck.
“I could hurt you.” An says, continuing to fight this losing battle in her head.
“I trust you.” Kohane whispers, reaching down to grab An’s hand, her fingers intertwinning with hers.
An hesitates for a moment longer before she reluctantly gets closer, one hand moving to cradle Kohane’s head gently.
“You’re sure..?” An asks one last time, her breath warm against Kohane’s skin. The faint brush of An’s fangs shocks Kohane. She's really a vampire.
“I'm sure.” She replies, her voice holding the tiniest tremble.
Kohane doesnt really know what to expect—so when the sharp bite comes, she gasps. Her hand instinctively tightens in An’s.
It hurts.
But only for a moment.
The pain is quickly replaced with a warm, almost pleasurable feeling. Without even thinking, her body instinctively presses into An more, chasing the warmth that's flooding through her veins. She can feel her blood being pulled out of her. It makes her almost lightheaded.
When An eventually pulls away from her neck, she's almost upset it's over. Kohane can feel An’s lips tremble on her neck, like she's hesitating. She's confused about why.
The feeling of An’s tongue dragging against the wound answers her question, but raises a bunch more in her head.
“To heal..” She whispers against Kohane’s skin, finally pulling away entirely. An’s eyes search her face, looking for any sign she might be hurt.
“Kohane? Are you alright..?” She mutters. Her eyes have returned to their usual blazing orange.
She looks beautiful.
“I'm fine,” Kohane replies, her voice just a little softer. “Amazing in fact.”
“Good.” An gently guides Kohane down onto her bed, worried she might be dizzy.
“I'm never doing that again.” An declares.
Kohane frowns. “Aw, why?”
“You could've gotten seriously hurt!”
“I liked it.” Kohane shrugs.
An lightly hits her on the arm. “Whatever.”
