The morning light soaks through the curtains as you eat in the kitchen compound munching on a half cooked pancake as you read through the messages on your phone. Your eyes widen as you checked the time 7:30 to be honest it wasn't that late to your very early mission debrief but it was the leader's choice and you wouldn't argue with a 6'0 foot tall, luscious dark hair, metal arm man, with a staring issue - yeah absolutely not and even if you did want to argue with him (realistically speaking you wouldn't) you would absolutely fold cause believe it or not for all he is trauma experienced, veteran soldier, that is also a weapon(ed), anger management issues that also has staring issues, you were absolutely falling for him - but you also learned from the months you were living in the new tower that James Buchanan Barnes has a ex and an ex that he couldn't move on from.
You snapped yourself back to reality, taking a deep breath as you took another bite of the disgusting pancake you made but you couldn't care less, because your mind was wondering somewhere else.
You walked out the elevator with absolutely no confidence, your shoulder slumped, scrolling mindlessly at your phone it wasn't your usual self but it also wasn't something that your teammates would raise their eyebrows at. You have mood swings, very interesting ones - some days you would act all sunshine and happy the next your all snappy and quiet, so the teammates just resort to observing if you have a sunshine mood or a snappy one. Although Bucky would always be an exception, Yelena and Ava just say it's because he's the leader, John says you have a crush on him though no one seems to trust him (when it's the absolute truth), Alexei just snickers and moves on, while Bob just doesn't have the care in the world.
You let out sigh putting your phone down "So... We're just going to have a meeting here?" You said stretching your arms and yawning still feeling drowsy.
John and Yelena nod at the same time while Ava responds with a quick "yes".
You nod back sitting down and looking at your watch to check the time "He's late." You said although you know why he is.
John nods while the rest are silent minding their own business "Yeah, he is not his usual self, eh?" He jokes chuckling before shutting his mouth seeing your raised brow.
"No need to grow defensive, I was just kidding." He said pausing like he wanted to say something before he blurted it out "You know? I heard him last night talking to someone on his phone..." He trailed off pausing like he knows once he said that first sentence the rooms going to explode and it does Ava and Yelena whips their head at John, Alexei evens props his head up to the counter were he's secretly not secretly eating, even Bobs stops reading his book to take a quick look at John to make sure he's serious and he is.
Your stomach drops, you clear your throat attempting to ask John something before Yelena beat you to it "Who was it? Was it his ex? It probably is god that man cannot move on from that woman. SHE CHEATED ON HIM." she yelled while the group grew quiet so quiet.
Well, that was new. You didn't know, no one except Yelena it seems.
John was the first one to break the silence by quick response "Yeah, I think it was his ex..." He trailed off his mind wandering off somewhere else. While you stayed quiet just listening to them as your heart thrummed in your chest it was starting to feel heavy.
"Wait, wait Yelena how did you even know that Bucky's ex cheated on him?" Ava chirped genuinely curious as Bob nodded along with her, starting to feel interested on the topic instead of his book setting it down.
Yelena cleared her throat "That's classified, information, let's just say super soldier's are not the only ones with a gift of intense hearing." She chuckled while the others just looked at her with disbelieving faces.
Alexei though props his head back up yelling a "THAT'S MY DAUGHTER."
Yelena snorts "Yeah, yeah, thanks dad." She says rolling her eyes in the process.
You stayed quiet because not only because you were heartbroken, you knew about the "call" before John even mentioned it, you knew exactly what happened, what he said, what she said because you were there just in the corner of the hallway, the same hallway where you would always double check you hair, your clothes if there was crinkles, your breath if it smelled good. You didn't mean to over hear you both just picked the same date and time to confess to him while he wanted to call his ex. You overhead everything, every crack of his voice, every deep inhale he took, every sniffle he took. But your legs just wouldn't budge it stayed routed to the tile like if you took a step he would hear you and he probably would because of his intense curse hearing and those-
Your mind snapped back to reality as John pocked your shoulder with his elbow. You shook your head, your minding figuring out where you were "Yeah? yeah?" Your voice grew quieter as you saw Bucky standing with in front of you, with those concern blue eyes of his and the way his brows would wrinkle as if figuring out a hard math problem.
"Are you alright?" He said putting his hand to your shoulder. You shook your head "Yeah, no I'm fine. I just feel dizzy probably just going to um- uh- excuse me. I'm going to uh-" you paused trying to think of the word you were going to say "yeah, water yeah I need water, I'm sorry need water, god I'm sorry guys continue the meeting without I'll be fine." You stood up smiling awkwardly and silently cursing yourself before letting your legs guide themselves.
"Are you sure? Doll?" He said walking towards you in two steps that took you five steps before he was in front of you with brows raised "You really okay?" He said his voice matching with his face, full of concerned. You nodded "Yeah, I'm fine need water, my head's a little bit wobbly." You joke quietly, chuckling to yourself before shutting your mouth - that was stupid why did you do that?
Bucky obviously didn't believe any of your nonsense but just nodded playing along to your excuse "Okay, just take meds. That'll help your headache."
You smiled, your heart warming at his genuine concern "Yeah, will do sarge." You joked lightly before heading out.
You were startled with Bucky's voice behind you, putting your hands on your chest as a laugh flower out of your lips "What do you want, Barnes?"
"Nothing, nothin' just curious why you didn't take meds specially for headaches?" He said with a small smirk playing at his lips. You froze trying to come up with excuse "Well, when I drank water the headache miraculously disappeared." You looked at Bucky's raised brow clearly not buying your excuse "I just took a nap and it disappeared it works more efficient for me then meds." You answered half-honestly to him. And that seemed to buy to him he nodded.
"Okay," He nodded again "just take care of yourself, okay?" He said before walking away.
You nodded absent-mindedly, taking a deep breath as you wondered if you really, really have a chance with him.
Well, your percentages might have change and because believe it or not the whole team overhead everything, or more like watch and overhead it and believe it or not again they had a plan.
