Chapter Text
The assassin fell through the window and crashed into the prince.
He looked down at the prince and hissed in confusion. "Why didn't you yell for help?" The assassin demands.
"There's no point." The prince answers. "I want to die why do you think my wings are bound and I was at the window?"
"I ah-" the assassin cuts himself off and drives a knife through the floor. He grabs the princes collar and throws him into a wall. "You were about to kill yourself before I came?"
"Yes I was, I'm do to marry the princess of the neighboring kingdome but I don't want to." The prince answers.
"So killing yourself seemed like the answer?" The assassin demanded throwing to prince onto his bed.
"What else was I supposed to do?" The prince asks stairing at the ceiling.
The assassin throws a chakram just missing to princes face. "Why can't I kill you?!" He demands pressing his arm into the prince's chest and stabbed a knife into the bed frame beside him.
"Just kill me already." The prince says.
"Ugh." The assassin says standing and going to the window.
"Wait what's your name?" The prince asks.
"Call me Dabi, you Prince Hawks right?" Dabi asks.
"Yes..." Hawks answers.
"Whatever bye." The assassin slinks out of the tower room and slides down the vines.
Hawks site up and watches the assassin running into the forrest.
(2 day time skip)
Hawks found himself thinking about the assassin that had been moments away from killing him his cold blue eyes, the obsidian armer, the cold feeling of his knives and chakram, and the face he'd made when Hawks had said he was going to kill himself.
Hawks tied a message to his eagles leg and sent it to find the assassin and low and behold two nights later the assassin is back sitting on his window sill.
"Here to ask if I'll kill you again? You can't be that desperate." Dabi says smirking at the prince.
"No." Hawks answers walking up beside Dabi and staring out into the night sky.
"Dieing is never the answer just sometimes you need to find what works for you." Dabi says looking into the princes amber eyes praying he wouldn't notice.
"If being a assassin works for you how come you didn't kill me?" Hawks asks not looking at Dabi.
"I-" the assassin starts and then stops before grabbing the princes chin and forcing him to look into his eyes. "I just felt like I couldn't kill you is that so hard to understand?!"
Hawks doesn't answer he just reached up and wrests his hand on Dabi's.
The assassin realizes and pulls away looking into the night sky "Sorry." He says quietly.
"It's alright." Hawks answers looking down at Dabi's hand.
"It's just being a assassin is easy untill you talk to your target..." Dabi answers.
"I ah- what do you meen by that?" Hawks asks.
"Nothing unless you want it to." Dabi answers.
"I do but it won't last forever." Hawks says taking the assassin's hands in his.
Dabi looks down at his and Hawks' entwined hands and says "I don't care even if just a little while."
"I'm really a mess you'll probably get tired of me and then kill me." Hawks answers.
"I don't mind and I won't kill you I don't think I can." Dabi answers shoving the prince down onto his bed and laying beside him.
Dabi cupped Hawks face in his hands. "Would you care if I-" Dabi cuts off as Hawks pulls him closer and kisses him.
The two stay like that untill Hawks pulls away gasping. "I wish I didn't have to get married to that girl I want to be with you." He says.
Dabi pulls Hawks up into a sitting position. "We could run away together."
"What about your job?" Hawks asks.
"I've made enough but I was never happy untill I crashed through your window." Dabi says.
Hawks starts laughing and rests his four head againsed Dabi's cold chest plate.
A knock comes from the door and Dabi bolts up and to the window. "Use that eagle to find me again." He says as he grabs the vines and slides down the tower walls.
(1 week time skip)
A week later Dabi takes in the massive castle before him he sees Hawks walking the courtyard and he climbs tower wall to wait in Hawks room.
The prince walk in a notices Dabi sitting in the windowsill and jump back in surprise.
Dabi snorts and starts laughing.
"You came, in the middle of the day, are you crazy?!" Hawks says stairing at Dabi's face.
"Thought I'd surprise you." Dabi says grinning at Hawks.
"I- but if you get caught." Hawks stutters.
"It's fine." Dabi says pinning Hawks againsed the wall and tilting his head playfully.
"If you get caught the punishment for what you do would be death." Hawks says concerned.
"Well at least now I know I won't die before I find love." Dabi jokes.
"I'm serious." Hawks says in his authoritative voice "don't ever come in the day again I don't want you to die."
"Aw your worried about me?" Dabi teases and at the look on Hawks face adds. "Alright, then I guess I'm stuck here untill nightfall."
"Thank you." Hawks says wrapping his arms around Dabi. "I don't want you to go not ever."
"I'm sorry but I have to even though I don't want to leave you either." Dabi says returning Hawks hug. "I repeat my offer for you to run away with me."
Hawks shakes his head again. "I'm sorry I can't I would lead the guards to you I want you to be safe."
"So you think I care, I'd risk a thousand armies for you." Dabi says cupping Hawks face with one hand.
"Just promise me you'll stay alive." Hawks says.
"I promise I'll stay alive for you." Dabi says walking over to the window. "Till we meat again." He says as he drops down the vines.
(1 week later)
Hawks eagle flies up back to the tower window with a new message tied to it.
"Sorry I can't clime up to you we could just talk through your eagle though -Dabi." Hawks read off the note.
The prince pokes his head out of the window and looks down at Dabi sitting at the base of a tree just outside the castle walls.
Hawks spreads his ruby wings and soars down silently to the ground beside Dabi.
"Why can't you come up to the tower?" He asks.
"I ow-" Dabi cuts off grabing his left arm and curling into a ball as his face contouring in pain.
"Are you alright?" Hawks asks concerned.
"Just a bad fight I'm fine." Dabi says clearly lying.
"Ok you have a terrible poker face." Hawks says wrapping his arms around Dabi waist and lifting himself and Dabi into the air and through the tower window.
"Ah!" Dabi says as Hawks circles his room and drops Dabi on his bed. "Warn me next time you do that!"
"Stay here." Hawks orders as he hurried out of his room.
"As if I can go anywhere." Dabi mutters as Hawks closes the door.
Hawks re-enters his room and hurries over to Dabi's side.
"What happened?" He asks.
"I told you just a bad fight." Dabi says.
"Give me your arm." Hawks orders and Dabi reluctantly held out his left arm. Hawks pulls off the obsidian armer and gasps at the gashes underneath.
"It's nothing." Dabi says looking embarrassed.
"This isn't just a gash this is a griffin claw." Hawks says running his hand along the injury and Dabi shutters is pain.
"Sorry." Hawks says grabbing a roll of gauze from the medical supplies he's brought up to the tower.
Hawks grabs a red tinted potion and pours it on Dabi's arm and wipes away the extra liquid.
Dabi hisses sucking air through his teeth.
"Sorry." Hawks says again wrapping the gauze around Dabi's arm and tieing it off.
"That... feels better." Dabi says in surprise.
"I'm no healer but I've been in the infirmary enough I know the basics." Hawks says looking embarrassed.
"Hah!" Dabi laughs looking down at his bandaged arm. "Thanks." He adds.
"No problem." Hawks responds.
Dabi pulls Hawks closer and kisses him on the cheek causing the prince blush.
