Chapter 1: Hongjoong

Chapter Text

It’s a very well-known fact that Hongjoong is a workaholic. When you first got together with him, it had been a bit hard to cope and get used to it, but now, after years of dating, it’s pretty normal for you.
It’s not like he will abandon you for weeks on end for any unknown reason, but there are days when you have to text some of the others and find out where he’s been hiding and if he has lost his phone.
Nine times out of ten, he’s in his studio, working on new music, fashion designs, or future comeback plans for the group. That’s where you found him now, eyes half-glazed over as he stares at his monitors. You gently close the door behind you, watching as the headphones glued to his ears pour the track he's been working on for hours into his brain.
You sigh, knowing the look on his face means he’s stuck on something and has been for a while. You slip your bag over your head and put it on the floor, and shrug your coat off, slinging it on a nearby chair before slowly walking over to stand beside his desk chair.
He’s so absorbed in the track that he doesn’t notice you next to him until the song ends and he leans back in the chair with a frustrated groan.
“Joongie?” You ask softly, just loud enough to break through the headphones. He jumps in surprise, and you can’t help but smile at his small reaction.
He gives you an affronted look, one hand on his chest. You smile wider, “Hi.”
His frown doesn’t stand a chance when you look so happy, and he quickly reaches for your hand, his expression turning sheepish.
“Did I miss your call again?” He quickly glances at his phone and cringes at the 8 missed texts you had sent him over the course of the day.
You quickly shake your head, “It’s okay, Joong, we’ve talked about this, I know you have things to do.”
He quickly frowns deeper, standing to pull you into his arms, “No, I should still be answering my partner when they need me.” his arms tighten around you, “I’m sorry I missed your texts, this stupid track is giving me hell.”
You chuckle, having heard this exact conversation many times, “What’s wrong with it?”
“I don’t even know,” Hongjoong sighs into your hair, “It’s missing something…” He trails off, unfocused as he brushes a hand up and down your back.
“Want me to listen to it?” You offer, knowing that a few times in the past you’ve been able to make suggestions with your fresh perspective on the tracks.
“Hmmmm,” He thinks about it and then shakes his head, pulling away slightly, “No, I want to know what I can do for you? You needed me, right?”
You smile at him and shrug, “I was just hoping to spend some time together. If that’s helping you with your work, I’m okay with that.”
“No, I don't want you to only have half my attention,” He insists, turning to his computer to save his files and shut down his program.
“Joong, are you sure?” You ask, trepidation and a bit of guilt flashing down your spine.
“Of course I am, my love,” He turns back around, “Now, what should we do?”
Neither of you has any bright ideas, and it’s too late to go do anything outside, and that's how you find yourself curled into his side as you both squeeze onto his small studio couch. You keep your head tucked under his chin, happy and slightly sleepy as his fingers trace unknown shapes on your back.
He had turned on some lofi and dimmed the lights way down. He pulls the blanket Wooyoung had left there the day before higher up around both of you and hums in contentment.
“I’m sorry I’m distracting you, Joongie,” You say softly, words slightly affected by the sleepy mood you’re in.
“You have to stop apologizing, my love,” He says, hand going still on your back, “I needed a break anyway.”
You hum, not totally convinced, and he pinches your side.
“Hey, I’m serious, never apologize for wanting my attention, that’s what a partner is for in the first place,” He sighs, “Bother me as much as you can, okay, Love?”
You glance up at him, his face serious and slightly sad. You nod.
“Okay, Joongie,” You smile and tuck back under his chin, “I’ll bother you all the time.”
“Good,” He presses a kiss into your hairline, “Sleep.”
And you do.
