Chapter Text
"Odasaku is dead"
The answer came so suddenly it almost shut Chuuya's brain. Just a moment before, Dazai was found sat on his couch, more lifeless than he ever looked and missing an eye bandages
Chuuya didn't know what he expected then when the man lift his head to meet him but Chuuya sure didn't expect his partner to tell him that he's leaving the Port Mafia
Chuuya was angry and he was confused but the moment he got that answer everything in his mind suddenly got solved. So instead, Chuuya calm himself
He might not know Sakunosuke well but he knows how important the guy is was to Dazai, and Chuuya knows it well, the feeling of losing someone important. He has known it way too many times
he told you to leave? Chuuya was about to ask before Dazai's voice cut through him again
"Leave with me"
To say Chuuya was surprised would be an understatement, he's completely perplexed. A part of him knows, feels, screams at him that he can't leave his partner alone, not in this state.
He knows he should go with him because..
because his partner needs him. Dazai needs him most in this moment like he has never before, and yet..
"Why?"
Yet Chuuua asks this same question again. He knows going with Dazai felt right but to betray the mafia, the people he has came to considered his family the only thing he hasn't lost; he will need more reason than that
The silent stretch for a while but Chuuya is patient, in this moment he can be. Finally his answer came
"Odasaku told me to be someone who protects people"
Dazai said before finally tilting his head up, his eyes now meeting Chuuya's
"He said if both sides are the same then it's better this way"
Dazai keeps his gaze, firm, unwavering. someone who protect people huh.. At that, the voice Chuuya thought he had forgotten years ago replay in his head once more
'I will show you the light' the voice had said to him back then. And maybe, just maybe, even now, even after so many years and everything, he too deserve to give himself another chance. So he answers
"Yes, Dazai. I will leave with you"
The light that grows in Dazai's widen eyes almost make Chuuya laugh
"What? Did the great former executive not believe he could persuade me into his scheme?"
A quetion, meant to be sarcastic, yet it came out way too light, lacking any real taunt or burn it should have caused
"What kind of bad partner would I be if I left you alone like this, Dazai."
Chuuya said with a sigh, not with exhaustion but with something that felt too close to adoration. his partner could really be an idiot sometimes
"Beside, you were the one who dragged me into this, so don't you think you would get to leave like that without me."
And because he has long wondered how warm the world of light he was once promised would feel. Tho Chuuya would never say that out loud, at least not to Dazai
In the back of his mind, Chuuya just hope the ghosts of his friends will be proud of his decision
He knows they will

Dazai was still surprised even as Chuuya has gone to pack his things but most of all he was relieved when Chuuya agreed
And If he were to be honest he would admit that he was in fact nervous and a little guilty
After all, the first time Chuuya lost his family as much as Dazai still thinks Chuuya shouldn't see them as one it was because of him
He was the one who dragged Chuuya into the mafia in the first place and now he's asking him to leave? Just like that? The audacity.
So naturally, Dazai has expected anger, yet what he got as an answer turn to be a simple 'yes'
Because, apparently, his dog think that his owner couldn't take care of himself? How troubled. Dazai stopped himself in time from giggling at his own thoughts as he sees Chuuya returning from his packing
Chuuya really is too kind, Dazai thinks, but maybe that is why he wants Chuuya to leave with him in the first place
And Dazai is certain that together they will find a better place they could call home
