Chapter Text
BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!
The alarm clock from your phone cried out, slowly pulling you out of your dormant state. your face scrunched up and the urge to get up and turn it off woke you up. You raised your arm and lazily landed a hand on your phone, dragging it off the bedside table and into the bed where you could move to your side, pulling the blanket on top of you, and curling up and holding your phone up to your face. You opened your phone...
FLASHBANG!
You almost threw your phone, somehow not used to the blaring lights of your phone even after looking at it for years. After getting used to the light emitted from your phone, you saw you had no notifications... at least from real people, that is. It was infected with ads from things you seriously need to unsubscribe from. As you were deleting notifications, you came across your reminder to go shopping today, seeing the words made you a little angry, you really didnt want to go shopping, errands were so annoying. But, you just groan, turning off your phone and rolling onto your back with your arms and legs splayed out, your eyes now shut with the uncomfortable soreness of drowsiness.
You reminded yourself you were an adult, so of course you needed to do errands... and you were hungry. You stretched before quickly sitting up and tossing your legs over the edge of the bed with a sigh. Your feet made contact with the floor, a shiver ran down your spine since the floor was very cold, aiding in your awakening. You stood up, stretching again before tossing your phone onto your bed.
Slowly but surely, you walked up to your closet, opening it up and just staring at the clothing with a half working brain. You finally fromed a thought though, deciding to grab a breathable elastic black shirt and some dark burgundy flared leggings. Moving to your bedside table, you opened the drawer and grabbed a bra... Your last one. You got changed into the outfit, the baggy shirt fell off one shoulder, showing off the red bra strap lined with black lace. Fashionable...
After making your way to the kitchen, you started to make breakfast, Grabbing your last two slices of bread. While waiting for the toasts thought of how lucky you are to live in a very lightly populated area. It was not a place that would be anywhere close to a good hunting ground. You knew this because it was rare for mimics, hosts, or harvesters to be in your area, avoiding the cold. Mimics wouldn't be able to find a good shelter, Hosts didn't like the cold, but harvesters? they just didn't like the lack of humans in the area. it was really cold since you were in Northern quebec, right below iqaluit, making it pretty cold for the fleshy monsters. But even then, it's not impossible, just less likely... and there were no elder mimics documented here! yay! Althought, Trimmings and Meatsnakes were not uncommon, you had a neighbor who worked as a butcher who had a Meatsnake that would gladly eat the bad meat or leftover slices from orders, and another neighbor who had a padgent winning Trimming that looked extremely unique. These neighbors, however, were like... 20 or 15 minutes away? All you knew is that the butcher was, in reality, the trimming expert, not the one with the padgent winning trimming.
Whatever the case, the toaster finished, the noise of the mechanics being let free pulled you out of your thoughts and made you jump slightly. Grabbing a plate, some jelly, and a knife. You grabbed the toasted bread, the heat making you quickly toss it onto the plate, but, you got used to it, spreading the jelly onto the toast.
when you were finished, you sat down at the table, eating your toast like you would any other day before finishing and rinsing the plate. Drying your hands, you walked over to your bathroom, opened the cabinet, grabbed your toothbrush from the cup holder, and started brushing your teeth. Now with a clean mouth and clean teeth you walk quickly to the door, getting your shoes and jacket on before grabbing your bag with the essentials. shopping time...
You walked out your home, locked the door, and got into your truck, starting it up. You shivered, quickly going to turn the heaters up onto full blast because it was starting to become pretty chilly outside. Luckily, though, you had this soft and fluffy black wheel cover, which helped to keep your fingers from freezing off. It was near the end of fall, and you felt bad for the people who probably had a mimic seeking warmth in their home, but, you also giggled at the thought of a cold little mimic crawling into someones closet...
On the road, you realized you were kinda bored, so you go to turn on the radio, but nothing interesting was on. So your next idea was to try to find a music channel... But there was no good music on. Your last resort was to pull out your phone and play some of your downloaded music, so you go to pull out your phone... tabarnak... you forgot it. You can feel anger run through your body, taking a deep breath before groaning loudly. So now you had to sit through 30 minutes of horrible radio music. But finally you reached the densly populated town. Driving around before locating the supermarket and pulling into the parking lot.

After getting out of the supermarket, you sighed in contentment... finally, shopping is done. As you were walking, holding your grocery bag, a movement in the alley way between the market and some other shop caught your attention. It was a shuffling noise... you look around, a little excited, before walking towards the noise slowly. You were excited since these things usually didnt happen in this area, being very boring and uneventful, but you also had a sense of wariness trying to pull you back. This alleyway wasnt the widest, but it had a decent sized pathway to the back door of the random shop building to the right. You heard some shifting and grumbling behind the side of the garbage disposal that faced to the other shops door. You slowly and carfully approached the source of the sound. With wide curious eyes, you hesitantly peek past the corner. Your eyes landed on a dirty, skinny... trimming? Atleast... thats what it looked like to you. A skinny trimming, or whatever it was, it looked sick. Your heart immeadietally breaks at the sight, your eyes becoming a little wet. The poor thing seems to finally take notice of your prescence, head weakly rising before laying back down weakly, as if waiting for you to kill it. Even with it laying down, accepting fate, it still shivered.
darn it...!
Without thinking about examining it or just thinking at all, you dropped your bag, unzipping your jacket and picking up the trimming, pressing it against your chest, pulling the sides of your jacket over it before zipping the jacket back up, holding the trimming. This sudden action cause it to let out a suprised chirp of sorts, claws digging into your shirt, breaking throught some of your skin. You ignored the stinging sensation and let itself stabilize. It was dirty, but you were planning to do laundry and shower today anyways. The trimming immeadietally clung to your shirt, gurggling as it rested its head on you where the shoulder and neck met. Its cold head on your skin made you shiver, but you quickly got used to it because skin to skin would help to warm it up faster. Holding it, you realized it was the size of a small dog, like a shitzu or maybe a dachsund.
You looked down at its little face the best you could, it really did resemble a trimming. Maybe it just has some rare attributes compared to the others? i hope its the case...
Looking over to your grocery bag, you realized how fortunate you were. You didnt buy too much since you still had some food leftover at home meaning you had one bag. You reached down to grab it before getting up from your crouching position. When you got up, you realized it was lighter than you expected—but it was really skinny... soooo... makes sense. Making sure the trimming was okay in your arm, you walked out the alleyway and towards your truck. People around you looked at the thing in your arms, all with a hint of curiousity in their faces. A child tried to walk up to you, looking up at the little red creature in your arms, but their mother pulled them back. You didnt care though, you were taking a presumably sick creature into your care, and you were sure as hell going to take care of it.
You got into your truck slowly, carefully twisting to the side to place the bag onto the floor behind the drivers seat, at the same time, you grabbed your "emergency blanket." You placed the soft fluffy blanket on top of you, up to your neck, covering its head. You made sure your arms would be above the blanket so you could have the blanket actually stay on you, and tie yourself down. Plus drive properly. You crane your neck a little to look at its face for the last time before starting the truck up.
Bien.. it's disgustingly cute...
