Day 28's prompt for @thedrabblecollective's November Drabble Challenge is Family - and I had so many ideas - but decided to go with Ava giving a little nudge. :)

The station was nearly empty - Ava sat beside her mom’s desk, waiting for her to wrap up. She wasn’t trying to eavesdrop, but Adam’s voice carried down the hall. She frowned when he told another officer his holiday plans - “a full night’s sleep.” She couldn’t allow that.
“Hey,” she blurted as he walked past. “You’re coming to our place. Mom cooks too much anyway, and... you’re basically family.”
Adam froze, looking toward Morgan.
“She’s right,” Morgan smiled. “You should be with family for the holidays. See you at seven?”
Adam didn’t speak, but his smile? It said everything.
