Tomorrow Will Be Another Sunrise

Summary:

This is far and away one of the worst things I've ever written

Work Text:

“HiHi~” came the small voice of a bundle of energy as he walked in.

Ibara didn’t acknowledge him. He was engrossed in whatever boring graphs and documents he had open on his laptop screen. Despite the sunset rays still finding their way into the office, Sora could see the reflection of a dozen separate browser windows in Ibara’s glasses. More noticeably, though, was the hazy colour surrounding him.

Sora walked over and tapped Ibara on the shoulder to rouse him from his business trance. He spun his head abruptly, clearly not having any awareness of his surroundings. He fixed a confused gaze on Sora, adjusting his frames.

“Oh!” after taking a moment to realize who he was looking at. “You’re here!”

“Of course! Sora said he would be here like Ibanyan asked~” Sora smiled. “Your colour was so strange when I came in, though. Is something wrong?”

Ibara chuckled, getting up from his chair. “No, no, not at all! Just very busy as usual. A lot of producer work on top of some personal interests of mine~”

“Oh~? You will have to tell Sora about your interests some time! Sora would really like that!”

Ibara gave his signature salute, as an attempt to hide his excitement towards Sora showing interest in his hobbies.

“I would love to! Today however I have called you here for some business.”

Sora tilted his head. “Did you have business for Sora?”

“Why yes!” Ibara reached over to the mountains of paperwork on the table and pulled a file from the bottom of one of the stacks. He considered it in his hands for a short moment before handing it over to Sora. “A proposal for Switch.”

Sora took it from him with sparkles in his eyes. “For us?! You didn’t have to set us up with work, Ibanyan~ we are not even from the same agency!”

Ibara gave a coy smile. “You’re right, I shouldn’t be helping a unit from another agency. Perhaps I just see a mutual benefit in this!”

The mutual benefit of I think you’re cute and want you to like me.” Ibara was not going to say this out loud.

Sora gave a wide smile and nodded. “Ohh, Sora understands! After our Majestic Magic live, it would make sense to do business together!”

“Exactly~ You’re very quick! I hope we as Switch and Eden can find success in our future endeavors!”

“HaHa~ Sora agrees! Thank you for your help, Ibanyan! Sora will show this to Shisho~ and Senpai! Though I came all the way here to speak to you, do you want to hang out for a bit before Sora leaves? Sora even brought snacks!”

Sora set the business file aside and reached into a small bag he had attached to his belt. He pulled out some nutrition bars of miscellaneous flavors.

“Sora knows you prefer your supplements but Sora thought maybe these would be a fun alternative while still being nutritious!”

He presented one to Ibara, beaming brightly. Ibara felt himself struggling to retain his composure, but graciously accepted the food.

Sora tilted his head the other way while watching Ibara.

“Hm? Is something wrong?”

Sora shook his head. Ibara’s colours had changed to a spectrum of warmth, and he didn’t want to say anything in case it would shift. Instead, he reached out to grab Ibara’s free hand and gave it a light squeeze. “Sora thinks our future will be bright!”

Ibara reciprocated the gentle gesture without thinking. He then let out a soft chuckle, and agreed.

The two enjoyed a moment together as the sun finished setting, before Sora hurriedly left to make it to his dorm before it got too much later. Ibara returned his focus to his bajillion tabs open, full of business jargon and investment graphs. He sighed, the office felt so cold and empty now.

But at least, in a few hours, the sun will rise again.
