Chapter Text
He sees you when you're sleeping
He knows when you're awake
He knows if you've been bad or good
You better be good for goodness sake!
He looked at her in disbelief. “What?” he asked, wanted to make sure he heard her correctly.
She glanced at him before returning her attention to the scans in front of her. “Santa Claus is creepy,” she repeated.
“The guy who brings happiness and toys to kids?”
“The guy who breaks into your house, watches you when you’re sleeping, knows when you’re awake. That’s a stalker.” She put the tablet down and looked at him, “We’ve really never had this conversation before?”
“I guess not.” He knew that they needed to focus on their patient, but he still couldn’t wrap his mind around her thought process. “You know he’s not real, right?”
She rolled her eyes, “Of course not, but you don’t find it a little disturbing that people use this old man to get kids to behave. Santa’s watching so you better be good,” she sighed, “Instead of just teaching your child that you should just be good.”
“You constantly surprise me.”
She grinned, “You say that like it’s a bad thing.”
“Keeps me on my toes.” He glanced at the tablet but continued on, “So if you were to have kids…” he trailed off. They were more than just friends, and sometimes he felt as if they were just biding their time until she was no longer his resident, but he wondered if he overstepped with the question.
She picked the tablet up, but didn’t look at it. “I get the magic of Santa,” she said, “So if I had kids, then they’d still get gifts from Santa, but,” she took a deep breath, “But I don’t want them to think that someone was always watching them.” She looked at him, “Let me guess, you’d be dressing up and sneaking into their room so they could get a glimpse of Santa.” She fiddled with the tablet, “I mean if you had kids, not that…” she cut herself off.
He debated for a minute what to say, but decided to take a chance, “I think we’d figure out a way to make Christmas magical without Santa being a stalker.”
She looked up and smiled, and he knew she understood everything he wasn’t saying. It wasn’t time for them yet, but soon.
