Work Text:

It was November 30th. What’s the meaning of this day?

“The longest rainbow ever that lasted 8-9 hours in Taiwan happened today!” You might say.

While it is true that that happened, there’s another meaning for today. One that’s dear to me

My birthday.

I usually dreaded my birthday, growing up made me more scared then anything.

Whenever people I treasured made a deal out of imy birthday, I’d act calm and still seem to have little emotion about it.

But damn did I love it.

Ofcourse one would love to have people they care about show that they care about them back. Ofcourse I’d light up like a Christmas tree even with a happy birthday text.

Oh do I feel like a child, I’ve always been mature, even in my current years. But I act like a child. I use extra reactions, I make exaggerated faces. I speak loud and bold and act confident.

Growing up means to get older? To get wiser. More mature. Less childish. If anything then, I’m age-ing backwards.

Right at 12:01 today, my friend—let’s call him “Tutu Man,” texted in a group chat with 19 others “HAPPY BIRTHDAY REY!!”

Right at 12:02 today, Chakda texted me something along the same lines, “HAPPY BIRTHDAYY REYYYYY!”

I got excited like a child, kicking my feet.

Sometime later, TheDoodleNerd also texted in that same group chat Tutu Man texted in. “Happy birthday ya freaking loser/pos.”

I couldn’t help but smile at myself.

12 isn’t exactly an hour most people are awake at, but at around 1:30am (1:29am to be exact) I had put my phone down to go to sleep.

I was asleep by 2:00am max.

I’d chosen to wake up at an earlier time for me, 9:30-10:00am.

I woke up to quite a few messages, a lot of them coming from a group chat. Of course Tutu Man exaggerated my birthday a bit, but honestly I didn’t mind it in the slightest.

What’s funny though is that more of the kids in that group chat remembered my birthday over my actual friend group. To be honest they only remembered because of Tutu Man, but that’s still fun. Afterall I never really stated my birthday.

My other friend—Savanna also texted. Although we’ve only been friends since August and I’d probably had only stated by birthday once or something she remembered.

My friend, oh gosh it’s hard to come up with more nicknames… oh! Delusion(inside joke) also texted and is gonna make me cookies, yay!! She had my birthday on her calendar which makes me all happy.

A special person in my life had also texted, Pelican. And gosh is he horrible at remembering stuff, he stated it himself. He once said he forgot his own birthday. But he probably remembered because of Tutu Man reminding him….I don’t know how many texts he sent but that’s that!

I had tons of sweets, I love sweets. I got a lot of presents aswell. Arm warmers, earrings, a vocaloid t-shirt. I also spoiled myself and made a rainbow cuff out of Kandi.

My friend group wished me a happy birthday, thanks to Chakda announcing it in our group chat.

Honestly, it was a good birthday. Kind of.

I was dragged places I didn’t want to be, atleast I got a really pretty dress. I got my favorite food from my favorite restaurant, which admittedly is a fast food place since I’m quite a picky person. And I got icecream that I couldn’t finish—it was too much.

Honestly, as the day went on, it started feeling less and less like my birthday. The initial excitement slowly wore off.

Birthdays are just days. Another day. Another day that means nothing to someone else. Or a day that a tragedy happened to someone else.

But still, in my mind today is important. It’s my birthday.

Happy birthday to me.

Thanks for reading! Hope it was half okay, I didn’t put much effort.
